Get Ubuntu free

When you see the mylot users by location, it is evident that many of the mylot users are from developing nations. Also, it is evident that Microsoft Windows is the predominant OS throughout the world. Unfortunately, many people in the developing world do not realize that they are using pirated versions of Windows. The users of mylot, however, should be more educated than the average people. They should either have a licensed, for which you have to pay $$$, copy of Microsoft Windows or they should at least have realized that they copy is not legitimate and thought of getting a legitimate Operating System. A lot of computer users find it financially intimidating to buy and update softwares. Fortunately, there is a great alternative. Use GNU/Linux distributions. My suggestion--Get Ubuntu free. Most GNU/Linux distributions are free to download and free to make copies. But Ubuntu ships free CDs and Ubuntu(or Kubuntu, if you like KDE) is a great Operating System as well. Today is the release day of a new version Ubuntu 7.04, which is a great news. You can request free CDs here: http://shipit.ubuntu.com I do not hate Microsoft Windows. In fact, Windows is a great OS as well but it ain't free and open source. So, the development of open source softwares will eventually out-pace it.

1. They ship the latest version. 2. Shipit is intended for people who don't have high speed internet connection or those who wish to distribute the CDs. 3. I did not say linux or Ubuntu is the best...still long way to go but certainly it has the potential. Mac and windows are good too but they are expensive and many people in the third world cannot purchase them; hence piracy. 4. I just wanted to spread the word that people who are pirating, knowingly or unknowingly, intentionally, or unintentionally be informed of the great free alternative. Btw, Dell has announced to pre-install linux on select models, which would be great. I think computer assemblers in the third world should be trained in linux. Anyway, a few years from now, linux will be much more user friendly and usable by anyone...i would say it is already now but the problem is they are not preinstalled and many do not develop for linux, which however is improving. Good sign.
