Shortly after the 9/11 attacks I went out at night to rent a video from Blockbuster with one of my sons. As we were returning to my car, someone from several feet away yelled out "Go back where you came from!" As the parking lot was basically empty I could only assume this rude remark was directed at me. This scared me, especially since I had one of my kids with me, so I didn't wait around to find out if it was. I'll tell you though I am an American, I was born and lived in America all my life. Both my parents are American citizens, though my mom had to do it the hard way as she was not born here. I am of mixed blood, Irish, Filipino, and a little American Indian. I DO have the darker features, brown eyes, black hair, and skin that is medium in color, but I would have to say I 'look' more American Indian than the other two. This is the only time this has happened (knock on wood). I don't mind if someone asks what nationality I am, but to assume that I am something I'm not, whether it's daytime or nighttime, is just plain rude inmy opinion.

It's smallminded people like this that really make my blood boil. I'm caucasian, but I have many friends of different nationalities and races, and they've put up with some incredibly insulting remarks directed their way. People don't seem to CARE what race someone is. If they're not obviously white, then they must have come from somewhere else and they don't care where. I'm sorry you had this happen to you. It's shocking that people don't stop to think that not being white doesn't necessarily mean that you weren't born in the country you live in.

I have never been mistaken for another race. I have had people tell me that I should hang out with my own kind. I believe that some people are just to ignorant to realize what they are saying. It is rude and harmful to others.

It is plain rude. I can't understand people, they just assume. I know many people who look like they came from somewhere when in fact their ancestry in my country goes back further than mine. It is pretty shallow of people and I find it hard to believe in this day and age that people aren't more enlightened.

they are just being paranoid, they do not know where they can find a suspect or suspects while actually it is already sitting on the most powerful chair in the US.
