can Buddha guarantee the pass of exams?

Many prospective postgraduates prayed to Buddha for the pass of the postgraduate entrance exam in temples.These candidates and even their parents kowtowes reverntly to the figure of buddha although most of them are not Buddhists.According to their theories,they just did whatever they can to ease the strains and only buddha can dicide the result. we can not say that they are not hard working,they have tried their best to attain a relatively good score,yet they may not solely trust their endeavor and have to look for pyher guarantees.do you think they are ridiculous or you can understand them?
