Evolution and other religions

First of all, the intent of this discussion is NOT to reopen the evolution/creation debate. There are plenty of other discussions on that topic here on myLot if anyone feels so inclined. My main question is this: How do other religions view the evolution debate? It seems that the majority of the heated discussions I've heard on the topic have almost always involved only Christians and Agnostics/Atheists. I'm sure that other religions have a viewpoint on the issue as well and since I've noticed a very wide range of religious preferences here, I thought I'd ask. So please, if you are of a religion other than Christianity, please share with me your religion's view on evolution. Please don't feel that you have to defend that position, that's not what this discussion is for. I'm merely curious as to what they are. :)

As far as Zoroastrianism is concerned there is no conflict between evolution and religion. Indeed most Zoroastrians would see evolution as 'Asha' (Divine Order) in action.

Thanks for your comment, kiwimac. That's a very interesting concept. I've been meaning to learn more about Zoroastrianism. I am a fan of the game "Civilization IV" and that religion is in the game and I keep telling myself that I should try to find out more about it. If you know of any good website that explain a little more about that religion, please let me know.

OK you might not quite believe this but we were having a similar sort of discussion in the pub a few weeks back. One of my mates is doing a theology degree and we got onto talking about this whole discussion of evolution versus creation (he believes that god gave us a helping hand along the road of evolution) and he said that Hindus apparantly believe in evolution but look at it from a more spiritual plane and believe that humans are evolving not just physically but also spiritually to be able to fully understand god. Sounded like an interesting concept, sadly as this was a pub conversation it very quickly moved on to whether the influx of money into the premiership was good for the English game, so i don't have any more information than that

I'll weigh in for Theravada Buddhism. This is a verse from the Visuddhimagga, a two thousand five hundred year old text. "No God, No Brahma can be called The Maker of the wheel of life: Empty phenomena roll on, Dependent on conditions all."

Thanks for replying, Chiang_Mai_boy. I've seen several of your other discussions and responses and they are always very well thought out and easy to follow. Thank you also for sharing that verse. I truely enjoy learning more about other cultures and religions.

This is a great discussion. There is an old religion that amazingly talks about evolution. But it is tooo long to explain it there, please look in my discussions about that. You might also be interested in other similar discussions I have posted. The explanation of that religion is in the "Is there any atheistic?" discussion, which can be found in http://www.mylot.com/discussions/994290.aspx please read it and comment :)

Thanks for your response, missak. As I've mentioned before, I enjoy your discussions and they give me good cause to think things over from a different perspective. That's never a bad thing.

I also answered before this: you're most than welcome and I'm proud to make you think from other perspectives. Actually I never expect to change others minds, just have a communication, an exchange about informations on thoughts and worldvies. I'm a collectionist of worlvies, so I rather like people that are in someway from different opinions than mine, as you are, that makes me think in return about what I think and why, and realize there are other valid arguments.

Thanks for the best response. I think I don't merit it since I even forgot to mention that I was talking about Dahomeyan culture. :)
