Yesterday one of my computers just died - its the one that's normally connected to the internet - my mum was using it and she smelt a burning smell and then it suddenly just turned off - now it just doesn't turn on anymore. Ive got a feeling that it must be the power supply unit but could that also be something else? i heard that sometimes the PSU exploding could affect the motherboard and cpu. We've been using that computer almost 24/7 non-stop - i gotta use it for uni studies and myLot during the day and my mum uses it for movies at night - could a combination of turning it on and off one after the other have contributed to this?

Oh I don't know what I would do if my computer stopped, I would be devastated, I think I would panic as I am just so addicted to it, lucky you have another one, did you lose all of your data on your original one....that would be devasting...

luckily ive got another computer as well. Ive never lost data except when one time i accidentally formatted without backing up data - took all my mum's tax data with it. Usually nothing ever happens to the hard drive so i just take that out and transfer to another computer.

burning smell from the cpu, can be becuase of overheat or improper air circulation. the reason for that can vary from the motherboard from the power supply.

That surely would be a power supply problem especially if you open your pc and the fan attached to the cpu won't start to turn then it's 100% power supply.
