Screen Goes Into Standby

When I have been surfing lately or not long after I turn my pc on my screen goes black then switches to standby then goes off. Sometimes it restarts by itself and other times I have to turn off and restart, during this time my tower is still running, so I'm thinking its time for a new monitor and not a virus as my friend has told me. Any help or suggestions?

i think it is not a problem with your monitor but with you your cpu. some harware error is there, check your ram if it is ok or not, by running ram diagnostic tool.
