No single human being would be so brash as to claim that he has never in his life told at least a partial untruth. Why do people lie ? - to increase their sense of importance, to escape punishment,to gain an end that would otherwise be denied to them.

There are many reasons that humans lie. Sometimes people lie and their lies hurt others like in gossip. Others lie to protect themselves from punishment and to increase their sense of importance like you have indicated. Sometimes people lie to protect others.

There are a lot of reasons why people lie -- reaonas as many as the lies we are spewing everyday. There are sometimes that I do make a partial untruth to save myself inconvenience and to safeguard my interest. Example, if a friend who is not a good payer, approaches me for money I will surely say I don't have one. Why tell the truth if it will cost you some money. And to explain could took a lot of time and might even hurt the person more. Lies whether big or small are always a part of our lives -- we lies because all around us are not also so honest so why sacrifice yourself for others. However, there are times that we got to face the truth -- things that are life-changing and has the potential to affect lives should be told in truth. I lied yesterday, today and tomorrow -- just small lies anyway hehehehehehe. You are really handsome today ( and I am not lying!).
