A Francis Bacon quote: What do you think of this?

"If a man be gracious and couteous to strangers, it shows he is a citizen of the world, and that his heart is no island cut off from other lands, but a continent that joins them."
Mr Bacon lived from 1561-1626, and I believe his comment was very astute. Do you agree with his statement, and do you try to live as a 'citizen of the world'?

Thank you for bringing this quotation to our attention. I love this quote. I would like to think I live as a citizen of the world. However, I know there is room for improvement. I guess it's all part of bettering yourself as a person. Too often, we are shortsighted (me included) in our wishes for improvement for ourselves.

I love it too and think it is a very important concept that not enough people embrace. I figure this is going to be another of my weird freak-o discussions that no one is going to like, though.
