I want to make homemade mushroom and swiss burgers for dinner tonight. I don't want to use the patties you get from the grocery store because they're so thin and I like the taste of a good homemade burger. I don't have any good recipes for them though. The last time I made homemade burgers they really didn't have much flavor. Does anyone have any recipes that they like? Can you share them please?

2 lbs of ground beef 1 package of dried onion soup mix 2 eggs a generous splash of worcestershire sauce a generous splash of Ketchup 1 can of mushrooms Bread crumbs Mix all ingredients except the bread crumbs, add bread crumbs a little at a time until the meat holds together well and is not too moist. For best results BBQ with some nice BBQ sauce such as Bulls Eye. Add the Swiss cheese just before the burgers are cooked.

This sounds good. Almost like all the flavor is in the burger and a person wouldnt even need to put anything on it when it's done!

Thanks so much. I didn't know that so many different things could be done with just a hamburger.

That's the idea, putting flavour on the burger after isn't nearly as effective as cooking it into the burger, you get a nice juicy burger with LOTS of flavour.

Well, I haven't tried the recipe with the mushrooms and cheese, but this is our favorite way of grilling hamburgers. We take 2 lbs. of ground chuck and mix it with one can of drained crushed pineapple. Form the patties and wrap it with bacon. They are so juicy and taste really good! Surprising what a little pineapple can do. If you don't want the pineapple, just use the bacon trick with your burgers. It does keep it juicy, and adds just enough flavor to the beef. Good luck with your grilling! :)

Thanks, the bacon sounds great. We made the burgers last night and they were excellent. I used bits and pieces of suggestions here and they turned out great.

I always get the 90% meat and add a packet of onion soup mix and a smidge of water. They come out moist and juicy! Then lots of cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish and a big fluffy bun.

I never thought of adding water. Is that what gives them the moisture?

my usual burger patties made from 80/20 ground beef added with chopped garlic , onions and cubed bell pepper with dash of salt , pepper and flour then beaten egg with a teaspoon of soy sauce. make into patties and grill or cook directly on a non-stick pan. to make into hamburger with the bun , topped with american singles , tomato slices and lettuce with whipped of little mayonnaise. or with bun , button mushroom cooked with butter and melted cheese so great with honey mustard sauce or even barbeque sauce.

I love honey mustard sauce. I'll have to pick some up at the store for the next cook out that we have.

Here is how I make mine. I do not have a recipe, I just do it so I will try my best to explain my method. I take ground chuck ( I grind my own) and mix it with chopped onions, chopped peppers, salt, pepper, a little worchesture (spelling ?) sauce and a small amount of soy sauce. I then add enough powder milk to keep it thick. I make my patties and fry them in butter and worchestire sauce. when they are nearly done, I add my mushrooms and onion slice to the skillet and fry these till tender. I put the swiss cheese on the meat patty until melted. I grill my buns on a cast iron griddle on the stove with a small amount of butter on it. Add my burger to the grilled buns top with grilled onion and mushroom and enjoy. It is so good this way. It sounds like it is hard but it is really easy. I hope I explained it well enough so you can understand how I make them.

I forgot to mention that I put a hole in the center of the burger before I fry it to keep it from shrinking and being thicker in the middle than on the sides.

I gotta say Villageanne, I think you need to have your own cooking and recipe site! I never heard of putting a hole in the center of the burger, I haven't made them yet so I'm going to do that and see how it works. Thanks for another winner!

That dimple trick really works wonders. They shrink less and you get a burger that is cooked all the way through. Excellent tip.

Chili cheese burgers are one of my favorites. All you need to do is mix in a large bowl 1 1/2 pounds ground beef,1/4 cup of chooped onion,1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce, 3/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, 1/4 teaspoon liquid hot sauce. Shape patties into 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Divide 6 slices of sharp cheddar cheese and 2 tablespoons of chooped chili peppers on half of the patties, top with remaining patties, sealing the sides firmly.

When you make them, you can add a sauce of your choice to the meat. (b b q, peanut , or cajun) Or, use spices. Pepper, and other herbs of your choice.

Store bought ones are awfully bland and tasteless .. wouldn't even expect the dog to eat them. We make ours with heart start mince meat, chopped onions, variety herbs and spices, egg, bread crumbs (to hold together), tomato sauce, worstershire sauce, soy sauce and other sauces depending on how we feel .. and what we feel like eating. Mix well together .. mixture should be slightly sticky but not too sticky that it cannot be put down and moved again without leaving half on chopping board. Scoop out and make into a ball, flatten slightly, then lightly dust with flour. Then cook. Sometimes add chopped up bacon pieces for added flavour .. or wrap bacon around the outside for a change. Add vegetables depending on what you feel like .. putting grated carrot, peas and other vegetables in them hamburger mince is a good way to get children to eat their vegetables.

When I make burgers for BBQing or cooking on the stove I always add an eggg to the burger and some Lawrys Seasoned Salt to taste. It really makes a burger taste much better. Then just add the mushrooms fried in butter of course then slices of swiss cheese. Try Lawrys Seasoned Salt though. It makes a HUGE difference in taste. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Cher, I'm doing great, hope you are too. My daughter isn't crazy about onions but if I chop them really super fine and put them in the burger she won't notice. (got my fingers crossed)LOL! I notice that a lot of people say to use breadcrumbs, I was wondering, does that make your burgers taste like meatloaf? Or, do you just use very little so they stick together?

Since you already received so many wonderful replies on how to flavor the meat - I wish to add what to do with the meat You know you want a nice thick juicy burger - but by the time it is done frying it has retracted inwards and is now a too thick lump of a burger of small circumference! to prevent this - after your patty is made - make an indentation in the center of the patty - this will prevent the burger from pulling in to the center and will fry nice and evenly.

I love making homemade burgers. I buy montreal seasoning from the grocery store and mix it into the fresh ground beef. It gives a great taste. I also cook them slow when grilling to sear in the juices.

Sounds like you got a few good recipes. I may have to check out your BR one some day and try it. I love swiss mushroom burgers. I don't mind the regular burgers for cookouts and such. But when it comes to wanting "gourmet" burgers, it's definitely best to make your own. =)
