Do you smoke? My wife is a smoker and she tried acupuncture. She was told when she went to have it done the acupuncture would cost €50. She agreed to have it done and just after after the pins were in place she was told she would have to drink herbal tea which would cost another €40. After she agreed to pay this, she was told that she would need twenty sessions at a cost of €1800 but if she paid in advance she would receive a discount of €400. She paid €500 deposit and was told to come back four days later. When she left the clinic she complained that her wrist where they stuck the first pin was hurting her and when she looked it was bleeding. Now her wrist is bruised. She has decided not to go back again and is at the loss of €500. What are your views on acupuncture? have you had it done for anything and did it work?

My mom did go through that route to quit smoking, went through all the sessions, after a month she was smoking again...She is now taking that new non-smoking pill...Chantex....So far she says she can tell the urge to smoke isn't as bad . . . She says now she keeps rollup pieces of paper by the phone, to keep her hands busy, because the habit of having something in her hand is also hard to break.... I wish your wife the best of luck in quitting...

I don't like to see youngster smoking, or anybody for that matter. However, I don't think some of the youngsters would want to quit smoking. They think it is 'cool' at their age. It is only in later years when they start having respiratory problems that they will realise the folly of their ways. It might be a good thing if smoking was banned altogether particularly for young people.

I think it is legal gabs. They have lots of clinics throughout the UK and Ireland. It is the way that they got her to pay the money which I don't like. They gave her the first session and it was only after that, that they told her she would need another nineteen sessions. Anyway, she is not going back for the rest of the treatment but the good news is that she has cut down dramatically on the ciggies.

A group of my friends who are smokers and ex-smokers were just having a conversationabout quiting the other day at work. I've never been a smoker, so I don't have any first-hand experience in trying to quit. My friend Jim has quit twice. The first time he just read a book called "QUIT" which he highly recommends that used several strasgies to quit. He didn't smoke for 11 years after using the book and then he had a 3 year relapse. The last time he quit, 8 years ago, he used hypnosis to do so; he said it only took three sessions for him to lose the urge to smoke and he hasn't since. I guess it is all about finding what works for you (or your wife, in this case) I wish you all the best of luck.

She has managed to cut back on the ciggies over the last couple of days and this is just by her own will power. If this doesn't work, then I will recommend the hypnosis to her. Thanks for telling me about it.

acupuncture - Acupuncture to quit smoking?
I wasn't a smoker and i was surprise to hear your wife experience, she should return to the clinic, show them the bruise and claim for refund. There might be an error they made. My grandpa used to be a heavy smoker, he quit smoking and drinking after a heavy sickness. It was all about the mental willingness.
