Have you tried "buying" a nice, pricey piece of clothing that you returned after wearing it once? I have a girlfriend who borrows clothes from department stores. She buys the clothes and wears them at family parties to impress her sisters-in-law. She would return the clothes after a few days. What do you think of that?

I have never done that because I don't try to impress other people with material things that aren't mine. Also, I don't think it is allowed here. Only merchandise that has factory damage can be returned but if there are other available similar items that's available, it's more likely that they will just exchange the item that you bought to another one that will be carefully checked for any damage before you take it home.

In the US, department stores have a return policy that is quite lenient. You can return the item easily for a refund if you have the receipt and the item still has the price tag within a certain certain period of time. If you don't have those, some stores would still take the item back for store credit.
