A pistol packing granny captured 3 criminals stealing from her at her farm. In order to prevent the desparadoes from escaping she used her .38 to shoot out 3 of the tires on their truck. The full story and short bio of this wonderful women (who was Miss America 1944!) is at the url below:

Pistol packing granny!! red, a lady of her calibre, could surely not be deemed to be a dangerouis vigalanty!! I mean hell, she only shot their tyres out!! I would classify her differently if she had aimed at their personals lol!!
Have a good night mate and keep well!

Yes, I say good for her. These guys had been stealing from her for years and she just now caught them. They are very lucky she did not just shoot them some place personal.
However, it is now established in the US courts that deadly force can not be used to protect property. There was a time when you could, but that was a long time ago.
Incidently, when it was allowable to shoot someone who was stealing your car, there was a lot less car theft.
Today, shooting at a criminal only stealing from you could lead you subject to numerous criminal charges even if you do not hit him. Then there are lawsuits! Don't get me started about that.

"The laws were changed because of the idiots"
I'm really starting to suspect the laws are changed to disarm us, and the "idiots" are merely a convient excuse.

Well I question whether the idiots aren't the ones allowing the non-conformed to keep the upper hand legally??
If she hadn't shot the tyres out, what would the law have done???

Couldn't get the link to work; but, if they were stealing from her on her property that was "self defense". It isn't like she went out an tracked them down; that is what a vigilante would do.

I couldn't agree with you more. The reason I asked the question is that I'm old enough to remember when there was a much more liberal attitude toward this sort of thing, even in rural areas.
Believe me when I tell you there use to be quite a few, and there still are a few prosecuters who would think this women should be prosecuted for firing her weapon, putting people at risk, and damaging these poor men's property!
Thankfully, those days of prosecuting people for defending their rights are almost gone. Even still, if this had been a 21 year old male who had used his assault rifle to shoot out the tires, I'll bet his chances of being charged would go way up.
