I Miss The Videos

A lot of the videos that I enjoyed watching on YouTube are now gone. From my understanding people had put a lot of videos on there without permission and since the sources involved with the music were not being paid, they demanded that the songs be removed. This is understandable, but at the same time, I heard that Youtube was going to start paying some of the regulars to post on the site. I was wondering why they could not also pay to have all the videos that people enjoy on the site. But then, it might get to expensive, especially if they charge per view. Does anyone know anything about the legal ramifications of this situation.
