I have found that this is just something that takes time for them (kids) to learn. It may be the sound or the sensation on their hand or just to watch the other persons expressions change, but may children go thru this stage. Just try and make sure that even though it is frustrating and sometimes quite painful, not to lose your temper. Also, something I did with my youngest was teach her some signlanguage. Children can usually start retaining that kind of stuff at about 10 months. Then everytime she fell down or got hurt I would show her the symbol for "hurt" then when she would hit, or bite, or pull hair. I would tell her not to do that because it hurt, while showing her the sign again. This has proven very succesful. Good luck.

Hit and laugh, is common among kids till they attain 2 years. Let her enjoy her, activity, as long as it does not pain. I enjoy such child pranks.

I agree with everything lanfear55 had to say about it.
Additionally, there were times when my son would do it that I would just walk away from him..... no response, no hurt sign, nothing. I seemed to be the most effective for him because he loved being close to me and playing. (each child is different.) It is just a stage. She will get through it soon.

My son is 17 months old and recently started this same behaviour. He seems to always be picking on his siblings! None of the older girls (now 3, 4 & 5) went through this and I really dont know what to do. I have told him no and I have put him in the corner. He hates being in the corner, but I dont know if he realizes why he has to stand there. I am hoping that this is a phase and that he will grow out of it.
