environmental pollution or conservation?

Everyday whenever I drive or walk around our city, I always observe trash and litters thrown all over the place. During one of my early walks with my dog, I witnessed a girl, probably a houshold help, carrying a sackful of trash and just threw it beside the road. I stared at her in disbelief. How many more of these people are throwing their garbage anywhere? Why can't we be our garbage keepers? On several occasions, I have been a witness to indiscrimate throwing of litters by occupants of private or public vehicles, thinking perhaps that as long as they have disposed of their litters outside the window, it's none of their business where those litters go. And this horrible practice is happening all over the country. How pathetic it is to realize that our lacking in national discipline shows in the smallest deeds--such as litters thrown everywhere from canals, to streets, to riverbanks, thus making our city ugly. The only consolation is the knowledge that there are people who are making concrete steps to conserve our environment instead of polluting them. This is an advocacy which every person should join in. Is it not that we are supposed to be the stewards of our earth? But why is it that a majority of our people seem not to care at all? Why can't we dispose of our garbage properly instead of throwing them everywhere? Watching trash being thrown everywhere is disgusting; I feel so helpless. I don't know how the city or our barangay can help remedy the situation. It's bad enough to observe that people don't care about whether they have disposed of their garbage properly or not. But what is worst, is when grown-ups or the supposed to be educated people pose as poor models to children by polluting the environment instead of saving or conserving it. Hey you enviromental advocates out there, any suggestions?
