I am a smoker. Been smoking since I was 15 but didn't start heavily until I was 18. I am 29 now. I want to quit. I want to have a fmaily in a few years and want to prepare my body for the baby. I am in the middle of losing weight. I feel like I can't quit until I lose my weight. Do you smoke? If so, how much a day? I am about 1 1/2 packs a day. My husband is a smoker so it doesn't help and I noticed I smoke more now because he does. I want to quit really badly but afraid of the consequences of gaining weighht, moodiness etc. I know it would help if we both quit, but at the same time, don't want to end up in divorce court. Do you want to quit? Have you set a date? If you are reformed smoker? How long has it been since you quit and what did you do to quit? How did you prepare yourself? I would love any insight into helping to quit this nasty and expensive habit. I spend $ 60 a week to smoke. Reason being is it is $ 30 a carton here in VA and both hubby and I smoke different brands. I actually in a way enjoy smoking but at the same time know exactly what it is doing to my body and mind. It's a sickening habit that I need to really break. Thanks in advance in look forward to reading the responses.

I never smoked. And I don't want to. I really hope you can quit. You know, you shouldn't be afraid of the consequences. It'd be better to stop smoking and gain weight than dying. After you gain weight, you can lose it. But after you die, you can't come back. Try to stop, I know you can. Just do it.

I use to smoke over a pack a day 7-8 years ago and gave it up once I fell pregnant 4 years ago. My body rejected it YAY so it wasn't hard for me at all to give up. I wasn't really a heavy smoker and mostly smoked when I drank or went out partying or gathered together with friends and family. My husband still smokes and has been telling me he wants to quit, but until he makes that decision to do it and actually do something about it, I'll keep on hoping! I don't pressure him at all about as its not easy to give it up since he has been smoking since he was in his teens too.

That is great that you quit during pregnancy. They say that smoking increases your chance of infertilty. I am having a hard time so not sure if that is true or not. Thanks for sharing.

Well i will tell you i'm a little upside down comparing to others. I was smoking since 10 to 17 but sudenly i quit. I don't know why. I just quit, didn't find it "cool" anymore. However i'm proud of not being a smoker anymore for a long time...now i have over 30 years old. I hope i live longer than you smokers do.... :))

Well this post can kinda be taken as snotty. Hope you live longer than us smokers? That is kinda rude. Who said that we think smoking is cool? Be proud that you are not a smoker. Just know that the damage that you caused smoking when you were younger is probably still there.

im not into it but ive tried once and yeah, it's refreshing but im afraid i would get addicted to it.. and anither is that i was the reading john grisham's "the runaway jury" that time which made me even convinced not to smoke.. haha.. but seriuosly, i hope you could quit it.. i mean, if you want to see your family for a longer time, i think quitting would be the first thing to do.. good luck on that task and i'll pray for you.

I am a smoker, I have smoked about the same time as you, I have already had 2 children, but fondly enough I just stopped smoking during the pregnancies. But when I got home. Boy did I make up for it. I would really like to quit smoking now, I have tried patches and hypnosis to no avail. Im just trying to slow down now, I have about 25 a day which is better than 40 +. So I suppose its something. Although I really enjoy smoking, I feel I have to give it up, its way too expensive without mentioning what it does to you. I just feel so weak sometimes and saying I am addicted sounds like an excuse, when I should be strong.

I have also tried smoking quite a few times. It was not really good. I had tried it for the sake of trying it atleast once. My friend also tried with me at that time but now he has beconme an addict and he cant quit it. He usually get upto 8-10 cigs a day. I think which is too much. If you want to quit i think that you should probably contact a doctor or you could try to have those chewing gums which are made specially for smokers. By eating them you dont feel like smoking.

Thanks. 8-10 a day? I wish I only smoked that much. That is far from an addict. I love to smoke, that is my problem and I do it when I am on the computer the most. Maybe I will start having to smoke outside and it will either keep me from smoking as much or I will spend way too much time outside. LOL
