I love a standard, I think they have more power than an automatic and are alot easier on gas. When I first started I didn't think I would be able to master a stick but I did and now I'll never go back to an automatic. So how about you do you have a preference?

Automatic for me all the way! However, my 16year old daughter bought an older Volkswagen and so she learned to drive a standard and she loves it and doesn't like to drive my automatic.
I never could quite get the hang of the hills in a standard. I guess I am never too old to learn and could try again.

I do enjoy driving Manual Cars, they feel as though they have more power, I use to be real Nervous on hills but it's not so bad anymore.... Once you get the hang of it, and you build your conferdence it's not that hard...... I did pick it up pretty easy....

Hi pinklilly. Yes it is easy once you get the hang of it, as well as a little bit of confidince in yourself and your abilities. I think everyone could drive a stick but they get too nervous, too frustrated and then just give up. unfortunately I have a completely different personality and will not allow myself to give up, i'll kill myself in the process of trying to accomplish something...lol. much thanks^.^

I think that it is important that you learn to drive both and all of my kids who are old enough to drive have learned to drive both. I am teaching both of my younger boys to drive both now. I prefer the standard, although the automatic is nice for city driving when you have many stoplights.

I can handle a manual car however I'd prefer driving an auto. That's because it is a lot easier to drive. With an auto car, I need not keep shifting gears when I am on a steep slope. Especially when there is a traffic jam on the steep slope and there are cars that like to come really close to mine.
Moreover, there are always lots of traffic jams in my country and I dread having to mess about with the gear stick and clutch when the traffic is hardly moving. MAkes my legs awfully tired.
It's definitely an automatic for me.

I rarely drive, so my skills with either are abyssmal. Still.. I prefer manual to auto when it comes to bikes, since i'd much rather have gear shifts than one standard power. Those shiftless bikes are a lot of WORK to pedal... and me and work don't mix. lol.
(by the way I suck, but I prefer manual. I will probably strip every gear I see, but I still prefer em. ^.^)

Stick all the way. I have an automatic right now, and I hate it when it can never switch gears when it's supposed to.

Standard are really long lasting but the only problem with them are they are manual and needs some experience to use them smoothly but automatic are very easy and can even help a dummie.

I prefer the automatic. After I have listened to so many people complain about driving a standard I never bothered to take the time to learn how. MY children will be taught to drive both but I am happy with just knowing how to drive my automatic.

Vehicles with standard gearing systems are far more better than with automatic. As automatic grearings have failed in Pakistan because conjusted traffic and worse traffic blocks that automatic kits used in automatic greaing system fails and the other major drawback of automatic is it can't easily climb heights like in hilly areas. The manual is, therefore, far more better as I also use manual instead of automatic.

Standard is way better than automatic. It's not because the engine is more powerful, but because there's more efficient transmission of power for the car.
So,I love manual.:).

I think it depends on what type of traffic and whether it's very hilly where you're driving when it comes to choice. My first 2 cars were standard, all since have been automatic and given the choice I won't go back. With heavy traffic and steep hills I'd rather have an automatic always.

We have both a stick (manual as we call them here in australia) and an automatic car, it doesnt bother me either way which one I drive but if I am in heavy traffic I would prefer an automatic car as I just find that I dont have to think as much when I drive the automatic, they both have their advantages though

It's a hard choice really. I own an automatic and it has it's conveniences but so does a manual(standard). I bought an automatic because the flow of traffic where I live is,hmm...think trying to pour out very thick honey. Standard cars are easier to maintain though and cheaper too. Come to think about it when I'm able to sell my automatic car I'll probably buy a standard car.
