My baby is getting really picky on what he wants to eat. He loves all fruit, but doesnt seem to care for the baby food anymore. I am wanting to feed him more a variety and am looking for any suggestions. Thanks.

What about trying this recipe: Salmon, broccoli and potato pie Contains omega 3 fatty acids Good source of vitamin C, calcium and betacarotene 1 large salmon fillet, skinned Strip of lemon rind 250ml full-fat cow's milk 2-3 potatoes, peeled, and quartered 1 tsp butter (or margarine) 15g margarine 15g flour 2-3 large broccoli florets Place the salmon, lemon rind and milk in a saucepan and poach for 10 minutes. Then remove the salmon, flake and place into an ovenproof dish. Strain the milk. Meanwhile boil the potatoes until tender, then mash with the teaspoon of butter and a little milk if necessary. Melt the 15g margarine in a pan, stir in the flour and make a white sauce with the milk from the salmon. Steam the broccoli florets until tender and chop roughly. Lay over the salmon. Pour over the sauce, and top with the mashed potato. Bake for 15-20 minutes at 200 degrees C (gas 6).

By eleven months old my baby was eating whatever we were eating, cut into small pieces. She just turned one a couple weeks ago. Today for dinner she had ham, sweet potato fries, brussel sprouts, green beans and cottage cheese. For dessert she had a little jello, applesauce and grapes (we were at a buffet so she had a little of each thing). She has been feeding herself since she was 8 months old and hasn't had baby food since then. Last night she had hot dogs, mac & cheese and rosemary potatoes (cooked in the oven) and lima beans. She loves veggies and will eat any of them. She is really into lima beans lately. Just start giving him a little of whatever you are eating. Let him feed himself--he will probably try more things that way. If he refuses to eat something give it to him again the next day. The key is to keep offering stuff even if they throw it on the floor the first dozen times you give it to them because they may change their minds. I even do that with my older kids. They all say they hate lima beans but when I make them for the baby I have the older kids (4, 5 and 6) at least try a couple. The other day the 4 and 5 year old ate a few each even though they said they were yucky.

Thanks for the tip. My baby seems to be more interested in what we are eating anyways. I wasnt sure if I was suppose to wait another month until I fed him our food or not.

He now has a sweet tooth, I would recommend you start feeding him what you prepare for yourself and the rest of the family. just mash it up with a fork, and feed him small amounts at a time. I would avoid sweet stuff for a while until he be comes accustomed with regular food. a baby cookie is a nice treat once a day. but he doesn't need a lot of sweet stuff.

I dont even give him cookies, but he does have a sweet tooth for fruit. Sometimes I do give him what we are eating but we eat alot of spicy food.

If your son likes fruit mashed you could also try mashing certain vegetables like sweet potato or pumkin for a change as these are still sweet, and you could also vitamize or have small amounts of meat chopped in mixed with the veggies if you wanted to. Cooked carrot is another thing but be carful about big pieces even though it is soft. I would make big portions of certain things like mashed veggies or pasta and freeze them in meal size portions to make it more convienent. My son would not like a lot of things to start with but I would just keep letting him try something and then let him try it again a few days later. I hope this helps.

I don't understand why everyone is saying about giving him mushy stuff, i'd have thought he'd be eating more solidly by now? Anyway, i'll give you a list of things my daughter loves - she's 10 months old - maybe you could try some of them & see how he goes! I am assuming he has a few teeth by now? Please excuse some of the wording - i'm in Australia so we have different words to you for some things! Contact me if you want any more info - i'm sure i can come up with your terms for other things! Toast with jam/jelly, peanut butter or other spreads - cream cheese is good! Make sure it's cut in to strips/soldiers. Vegetables like string beans, baby carrots - anything they can hold & chew at. My daughter likes brocoli & cauliflour heads! Sausages - cut them in to thin strips. Instant noodles, easy to handle & slurp up. Spaghetti bolognes - made with minced meat & long spaghetti. Fish fingers or normal fish cut in to little pieces. Chicken nuggets are good & so are french fries (i think that's what you call them) that have been oven baked so there's no fat! Basically anything that is soft & reasonably sized so they can grab it themselves & shove it in their mouth! The like to smoosh things & suck on them. Just keep an eye out for a little while to make sure he's doing ok! 1 thing my daughter loves to do is drop everythng she has on the floor, smoosh it in a little before she eats it - watch for that! Take care, Good Luck & i'm sure everything will work out just fine!

It's been so long since my daughter was small but I can remember giving her cheerios for a snack during the day. I would just starting giving him small pieces of regular fruit like bananas. You could give him mashed potatoes. I would probably start off with soft foods and gradually increase it and you could use your blender to mash up other foods a bit, like meats so they are not so tuff. My daughter could eat french fries and stuff like that at that age. On her first birthday she shoved a whole piece of chocolate cake in her mouth..lol

He eats the cheerios and pieces of fruit. I am really exited to see him eat his first bite of cake next month. Did you make a special cake or just a regular one?

If you're eating spicy food, maybe you can prepare something else for your baby like porridge or congee. You can also give the same food that you have but minus the spice. Just mash it with rice. Or you can boil potatoes and mash it so your baby can have some variety to his food.
