movies??? Do you watch them together even if it is not a movie that you/they would have picked?
Fortuanatly, my husband and I do enjoy alot of the same movies as well as the same types of movies.....but what if you/they want to watch a movie that you/they are not particularly interested in watching?? Do you watch it anyway? Do you get upset? Do you give them the space to watch it without being upset? Do you expect them to do the same?
Today as I was surfing myLot....I glanced up at the television and my husband was watching a SciFi movie.....with some strange creature.....I really was not paying attention.....but he was really focused on it. I looked at him and said "Honey sometimes you watch some really weird sh*t!"......he laughed at me and asked if I was wanting to watch one of my "chick flicks"....I said no and we went on......
Many times we have both watched movies that we were not particularly anxious to watch and it turned out that we really did enjoy that movie......I think it shows we care about our partners likes/dislikes; plus I think we expand as people when we are open minded enough to at least give something new a chance.
I just thought that this might make a good discussion and all responses are welcomed and appreciated.

My husband and I watch the same movie? Not so much! Occasionaly we might but he is not a big movie watcher. He does like regular TV, but most of the time it is stuff that I just don't care for.

We enjoy a good movie in the evenings and on lazy weekends...since my husband is a Disabled Veteran...there are times when he just does not "feel" like doing much....during these times he spends alot of time in his recliner watching movies.
I generally sit in the living room on the couch with my laptop enjoying myLot...with my "free time".
I truly appreciate your participation, my friend.
Blessed be!

I have to say yes and no to your question and here is the explanation: my partner loves TV, in fact many times he sleeps with in it on and we have a 42 inch HD - I like TV but am not as crazy, I can surf the net, read a magazine or book.
He loves SciFi, just like your husband and thrillers/horror; I enjoy them too but not 24/7 so, this is what we do - if we want to watch something together we choose a movie that we both like and agree to watch (we have movie and diner nights) and otherwise,we have a TV in the living room, which is smaller and I watch my shows on it like 'Friends' etc. The reason I leave him the large TV is that I really don't care about the shows while he really enjoys them so, it works out all right in the end.
Compromise, I guess is the key and men somehow seem to be more interested in TV than women.

I had to laugh, Magdalena.....we sound so much alike on this one.....My husband is completely "into" TV and moveies and while I truly enjoy some tv shows and love a good movie.....it just does not hold the same interest for me that it does for him.......Maybe it is because, as a mother....I am constantly up and down, making it more difficult for my attention to become absorbed into the tv.
We have a 52" HD in the living room with surround sound (which he gets entirely too loud sometimes); and a 32" in the bedroom so on the rare occassion that I want to watch something that he does not...I just go in there.
I agree completely about the compromise....that's what life is all about. Right??
Thank you for sharing with me, my friend.

Yes we do. We always like the blockbuster movies like Mission Impossible, Star Wars, Pirate of the Caribbean though there are times when I really have to drag him to watch chick flicks like The Sweetest Thing.

I am glad that you share this interest (usually). We usually buy the new releases...if they have a good preview and we think we are going to like it...we have been fooled a few times...and then we rent others from the local video store.
While I hae been pleasantly surprised by a few movies of hubby's choice that I did not think I would like....he has also been glad that he took the time to watch a few of mine......I guess it all works out.
Thanks so much for sharing with me.

My husband generally has control of the remote and flicks through the channel. He will ask me sometimes when he stops on a channel and there is a movie on and ask me what I think. Most of the time he just surfs until he finds something he wants to watch. Since I am a big internet user I generally go to the computer room and start using the internet. Are interest generally are not the same when it comes to movies.

Even though you do not generally have a common interest in movies.....it sounds like you have a good arrangement and are considerate of each others likes/dislikes.
Thanks you for sharing your thoughts with me.
Blessed be!

My partner and I share many intersts so normally we will watch most things together. If there happens to be something that one of us doesn't like on the television then we just go off to do our own thing. Sometimes I try to watch it with him. Just to try to see what he sees in the movie. I think that even when you are in a relationship its always good to have time apart.

I completely agree that every realtionship benefits from time spent apart.....I also will frequently watch at least part of a movie if it is something he "really" wants to see....if it cannot hold my interest I will then do my own thing....I have watched some really good movies that I would never had watched on my own......
With so many posts and responses, I see more and more why some of us seem to migrate towards each other....because we share so many of the same commonalitites in thoghts and mannerisms.
Thank you, my friend, for sharing.
Blessed be!

Usually, we compromise and sometimes are pleasantly surprised. We like Blockbuster video club, although we cancelled for the summer because we garden, ride bikes etc... On blockbuster you go online and pick out movies and when they arrive in the mail there is no time limit. Once you watch one you send it back and another one from your list is shipped out to you. You order three at a time which means there is some variety.
Some of the longer ones, or less interesting ones, we keep for a while before we get to viewing them. We like it for the winters here in upstate NY. We don't have any outdoor hobbies that time of year.
If we are not watching together, I notice the same thing you do....he watches some weird sh**!!! Once it comes on and he has seen 5 minutes or so of something he feels committed. Not me, I will shut off a movie halfway through if I feel I am wasting my time usually.
He leans toward action, but likes drama sometimes. We both like science fiction and mystery. He will sometimes even enjoy one of my chick flicks and comedies are always appreciated by both.
Enjoy your movies!

Suzika, thank you so much, I am really enjoying getting to know you over the past few days.
I think that you have the type of same healthy, happy relationship that we do.......While I have never been to New York, I do know why no outdoor activities .....oh how I hate the cold!!!! I also realize that NY is a lovely state.
Back to movies, I really hae enjoyed some movies with my husband that I would never have watched....would never have picked up off the shelf....but truly enjoyed. I have great appreciation for self growth through being open minded....like these pleasant surprises.
We too love comedies! I am like you in that I have no difficulty at all turning off a movie if it just can not hold my interest....what's the point? Right? LOL
We usually buy or rent our movies fromthe local store....my husband is a Disabled Veteran and he enjoys watching movies that he liked more than once....plus our grown children use our house like the local video shop....when they bring them back ....we frequently will watch them again.
Thanks again for sharing, my friend.
Blessed be!
