I love Christian music. I liked dc talk way back when. Now Toby Mac has come out with a song called Boomin'. There's a lot of mainstream Christian churches as well as Conservatives that won't allow their youth groups to listen to this song or any other Christian rap or hip hop. How do feel about this? Do you think that this type of music can share the message of Jesus? Do you think it's not the right kind of music for Christians to listen to?

I am christian, I hate rap, and I almost never listen to christian music. With that being said, I don't think anyone has the right to tell you what to do or listen to other than your parents. Yes, I do think it spreads the message of Christ. I know people who have been saved because of the "christian heavy metal" which everyone thinks is so blasphomy. If it was, then why did some people get saved listening to it. It is proven that when you listen to music you don't just listen to the music, you listen to the words. If that is what you like, as long as it is giving a good message of Christ. Go for it!!

No one tells me what kind of music to listen to you can count on that! I'll keep listening to tobyMac and all the other Christian artists I love. I do oversee what my younger dd listens to until she's old enough to decide on her own. Let's see maybe like when she's 21 or so LOL!

I really loved DC Talk! I am not a fan of rap music in general(mainly because much of it is very foul and has nasty lyrics)but I have to say I really like Toby Mac. I have not heard the "Boomin" song but I will give it a listen. I think it is great that he is using his talent to reach people who might not ever hear about Jesus otherwise. Think about it this way. If we only sing hymns, then the only people who will hear us are those who love hymns. Jesus Himself did not spend his time with believers only. He came looking for the lost. If you want to find the lost you have to go to where they are. I really believe Christian rock/rap/pop music can be used to not only refresh believers, but to find those who may not ever hear the gospel message anywhere else.

So true! That's what I think is so great about this type of music - it reaches our youth. Do you think young non-believers will sit in a service with only hymns, especially those that listen to this kind of music? No way!

Personally, I'm a fan of Toby Mac more now than I was when he was in DC Talk. Boomin is not my favorite from him, but he's done plenty of other songs that have been labeled as too edgy by those who don't care for such things. Here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, we're blessed enough to have a full time Christian rock station. They play rap, metal, alternative, punk, etc but it's all Christian lyrics and uplifting messages. I listen to almost nothing else! You can tune in too if you'd like by going to http://kvrk.com .

Thanks for the link. I listen to http://www.TheJoyFM.com on my pc and in the car. We can't good reception at home unless it's online. I do love all types of Christian music. Recently went to the Luis Palau festival in Tampa and got to see Kirk Franklin and Mandissa and him. What an awesome experience. Hoping to go to Night of Joy at Disney World in September too.

That's the problem. Some people look at Christian rap as being linked to regular rap. How can it be? Regular rap doesn't glorify God (some, just very few songs or artits do). But Christian rap is in a different category. If you'd like to get a taste of it. Go to My Tube and search for tobyMac Boomin' Enjoy!
