Do you think writing shapes one's personality?

If yes how? For me, it makes me think deep, express myself more openly but for some it can make you isolated but I guess best writers have more interaction in their lives.

Writing is a very personal journey in that it can take you deep into yourself if you are writing fiction or deep into another world if writing nonfiction. I've ended up exploring topics I never gave much thought to as a nonfiction writer. I think to be a good writer, you need to be a good reader and one who is interested in exploring the world.

I don't know if writing shapes my personality per se' but it does help me explore and expand on it. I journal daily for only myself so that when I have a day where I am not happy or happy I can look back at what I wrote when I was the opoosite and get a better understanding of myself and my triggers and patterns. I also express myself in a much deeper fashion when I write but I also find my spoken interactions benefit by the practice. So it is a vluable asset and I think it can help hone our personalities! Great Topic!

To an extent I think writing can shape a person's personality. I also think it helps a person come in touch with who they are because writing can help you think deep thoughts and express who you are whether others read it or not.

I think not only writing, but also by reading and thinking. It makes us grow more as an individual, it provides us more acceptance and wide appreciation on other things. It helps us be more creative, imaginative, observer and wise at the same time. Yes, writing and other interests help us shape our personality. We develop these talents through experiences and inspirations, it is a better way of expressing and sharing our thoughts by not offending others..

Personality is pretty much set by genetics and environment long before anyone starts writing. Of course, writing, if you do it seriously, is bound to have an effect on your life. But I think it's more accurate to say that your personality shapes your writing. Some writers are isolated, but that's part of their temperament. Some writers are very outgoing and their writing doesn't isolate them. I don't think either one has anything to do with quality.

In my case, since I have been writing articles related to parenting, health, finance, housekeeping and other topics for more than five years now, I found that I have learned so many things that I applied to my life and helped form who I am today. So yes, writing in a way has shaped my personality. But so has many other factors like the people I love, the friends I meet, the way I deal with things that happen in a day to day basis, etc.

Sometimes I write to see what I really think about something. I may have two characters play out something that I'm conflicted on, then I can see what I really think. I guess its a way to organize my thoughts.

I don't believe writing so much shapes or changes your personality but that it instead makes you think more about what is already there. As well, while it isolates some people it is still just as much of a learning experience as if they are more open only instead of learning from other people how to be a 'better person' they learn how to be a 'better themself'. Sometimes people focus so much on what is outside of them in life they forget what is inside their own hearts and minds.
