Is it a good idea to put personal photos on dating sights?

My question is not referring to security concerns but rather the pros and cons of placing your personal photo on the popular online dating sites. Does it enhance the likely hood that couples will connect and have a better chance of creating a long term relationship? Or does it actually interfere by either intimidating one from sending that first message. Might it cause a recipient not to respond and perhaps miss ever knowing the woman of his dreams? I would love to hear your thoughts no matter if they come from experience or mentally weighing the odds (neigh or neigh - picture or no picture).

It is better to put your picture on the dating sites so people will know ahead of time what you look like and if they want to meet you or not. If you chat with someone for along time and then they see what you look like and dont like it and know they cant be with you then the whole thing was a waste of time. I have my picture on the dating sites that I am on. I wont chat with anyone who does not have a picture of themselves up on their profile. I like to see what they look like and I feel like if they dont have a picture up that they are trying to hide something.

I have never used a dating site, but if I did I don't think I would place my photo up, because I dont want people to want to date me based on my looks.
