i have heard many people lately saying they would love to be environmentally friendly but unfortunately they Need a car. I also have a seven year old who tells me she Needs the latest gadgeterry. I got to thinking, what do we truely need, and what just makes our life more comfortable?

Well EsKaren I will be honest I think today we are all very spoilt specially the Kids If I look back to what we used to have as Kids and what a treasure it was to us well it was certainly not what the Kids have today I have to be honest I did spoil my 2 as much as I could and I guess that most Parents do But even us Adults are spoilt today as I Grandparents did not have Phones cars computers or anything like that Ok there where no Computers then but the other things where a Luxury and only affordable if you where classed as rich

in my life-time, a computer was the preserve of the rich. Also, i think as the consumerist state expands we are all encouraged to see the latest example of diversification of earning, as a must have, a need rather than a want, so it continues blessed be

We live in a society driven by material gain and what you have defines who you are in many situations. I think this is sad and can see why many people choose to live out of a van and possess very few things. We actually need very little to live and everything else is just for comfort or entertainment, it is very difficult to separate the two things these days. There are also parts of the world where people don't even have the basics like clean water and adequate housing we forget how lucky we are sometimes.

i certainly do feel the more comfortable we become, the more we are sucked in to the consumer rat race. At times we are like mindless rats running in a wheel to suply ever increasing profits for others. The bounderies between want and need have therefore become broken down not by the individual but by the ever expanding consumerist capitalism blessed be

Actually this world is fast turning out to be a competition between what you have & what you want to have. The difference between the luxoru & need is fast diminishing.Actually very few people now can really understand what are his needs .Today we are always encouraged to get more & more modern gadgets .It is no longer a luxory.I have seen this over a period in my country. In my childhood ,we would be happy to get a simple toy as gift but todays children are so much materialisticly driven that i sometimes think whether they will ever understand what is maning of true love.Today everybody identifies worth with the amount of money one has.I must say i hate such a situation as i believe in simple living.I am not at all crazy about having these things just as i think i don't need them.

oh this is a truely magnificent answer, thank you so much. Yes, everything seems driven by manufacturers or capitalists. Sometimes it feels the whole world is trying to sell me things

Personally, i do know what my needs are but i can't separate it from what i want. Most of the time because i want something so much i tend to consider it as a necessity. i know this is a bad attitude but i can't help it. of course, who wouldn't want a life without complications.
