Would you adopt a stray dog?

There's a very cute stray dog near my house. I feed it scraps everyday, and on days when it rains or when it is too cold it comes and sleeps on our patio, where its dry. I think it is a fine arrangement, since it is free to roam around whereever it wants, and at the same time does not feel destitute. Would you ever adopt a stray dog? Do you think I should try to confine it within our home?

My mom found a stray black lab in her back yard a few yrs ago on Thanksgiving. She took her in and tried to find her owners. She found out that her neighbor had seen a car come by and physically push the dog out so my mom kept her. She has been the best dog my mom has ever owned.

That's how we got our German Shepherd/Husky mix. She was found in an irrigation field by my aunt. She was only about 5 weeks if that. She had actually run away from the people who bred her parents. The people that had the litter were not good at taking care of anything and the puppy knew enough to hightail it. We lied and said we had no idea what happened to the puppy. :-) Now, Miss Sheba rules the roost and is a spoiled brat but who is loved by everyone. She may look mean but she's a 100 pound teddy bear. Some of the best dogs you'll ever find will be the strays.

I would adopt a stray dog but I would take it to a vet and have it checked out. I would also post signs to see if anyone lost a dog. I would not post its picture but ask for peopl to describe the dog. Or you could look in the paper and see if anyone is missing a dog.

I have done it before and i'll do it again, if the dog isn't aggressive then i'd shelter it and find it a loving home.

Why not! even a stray dog has a heart and needs home.

I have adopted stray dogs before. They can make wonderful pets and give you lots of love. They seem to try harder because they are grateful for a loving home and a gentle touch. If you want the dog in your home, I guess you could try to confine it unless it shows that it defintely wants to stay outside. Some dogs are not comfortable in a house because they have always lived outside. You can make your decision based on the dog's behavior and what he wants.

I think there is nothing wrong in adopting a stray dog but just be ready to give them up when their original owners show up. Adopting stray dog doesn't necessarily mean you have to confine it in your home. Feeding and letting him stay in your patio is ok. Let the animal come to you. When he is comfortable enough he will allow you to pet him. I have adopted a stray puppy and went to live with us and its a nice experience. I have an adopted stray cat too. It's nice because when this stray cat grew up to be a big cat he would take care of the stray kittens that comes to our yard.

He'd lick the little kittens and share his food to them.

I would adopt a stray dog they have often been dropped off by bad owners. I think if this dog is not in harms way then this arrangement is great for you both. We live by busy roads so I'd want to confine him so that he wasnt ran over by a car.

Keep the dog if you wish, but do get it checked by a vet before hand to determine if it has any diseases that needs curing of first. The dog will remain in your home compound once it thinks that it is his home. I don't know about you, but I don't want pets in the house. I don't chain up my dog and its free to roam around. It goes out now and again but mostly stays in the house compound.

i'm happy when i see people like you, that help the stray animals. i'm angry when i see an animal crashed on the street, and nobody takes him from there. i live in apartment and i can't take an stray dog at home, all that i can do is to give them food. my grandparents live at the country and a few years ago they adopted two stray dogs i hate the people who abandon their animals on the streets . if i would live at the house i would adopt a stray dog. i think that you should not confine him within your home because he is common with free life.
