Do you think the United Nations Organization (UNO) is capable of resolving any disputes between nations in the present set up? Do you think the UN security council constituting the five superpowers is sufficient for making final dicissions? Has the number of members to be increased? Do you think the UN General Assembly resolutions should invariably be implimented? Please come forward with your responses and make this discussion lively.

The UN exisits only for the UN and is becomming the biggest and most expensive good old boys club. They take care of their own and don't care about the little people. The oil for food scandle - nothing is being done to punishe the guilty. The Peace keeping forces in Africa are raping women and children with impunity. The troops are using UN vehilces to pick upand in some cases kidnapping young girls to rape them. The UN is invesgating to see if anything happened. The UN has Peace Keeping forces in Lebanon and Hammas set up rockets next to the base and the UN does nothing.

This is what happens when you let Dictators become members and then don't hold them to the mission and rules of the organization. We have developed a feeling with diplomats that you never upset a person and you always try to make them feel good. The UN has become a feel good institution that passes strong resolutions and then does nothing to enforce them. Many of these Dictators want an equal vote in the UN but don't want it in their country. When the members of an orginazation will not or chooses not to carry out its mission then it is useless and time to disolve itself.

But who made UN to this pathetic stage? Does the onus goes upon every member nation? Or is it because of the Security council? What do you think about it?

it seems to me that the united nations is not as active as it should be. the member nations are not even so concerned as to how the organization is going and faring. before, i used to hear about so many activities taht the united nations organization has been into but now, this organization is hardly heard of taking any steps about alleviating the conditions of its member nations.

You are right . The UN is now a days an organization to ratify the excessive deeds of some super power. It is totally incapable to resolve any dispute among countries. Some super powers are trying to take decisions outside the UN and later get them ratified. In total significance of the UN is almost lost.

Well, i think that UNO is there only to control the under developed and developing countries. The developed countries dont listen to the sanctions imposed by the UNO whereas the developing countries dont question them because they need their support in getting developed. So i dont think that the UNO can resolve any disputes between nations if the dispute is started by a developed country!

The leading countries even don't remit the levies and fees due to the UN. In these circumstances what is the purpose of the UNO?
