The London Marathon - a great run for charities

Congratulations - A special banner to say congratulations for special events.

Today is the day of the London Marathon. A great event when over 30,000 ordinary people run over 26 miles through our Capital city to raise money for charities. Congratulations to all of those great people that took part. Thank you to Flora for organising it, the BBC for great coverage to show so many of the 'fun' runners this year and to all of the people that contributed to make it such a great event. A very big WELL DONE!

It is indeed a great way for charities to make extra money but I was very saddened to hear of a 22 year old man dying after being taken ill after completing yesterday's marathon. Of the 36,000 + runners yesterday over 5000 needed treatment by St John's Ambulance staff and 73 went to hospital in extremely unusual temperatures for the time of year.

Thanks for the best response (erm even though I was the only one to respond) - I would have expected you to get more replies as the Marathon was only last weekend! Hope you've recovered now though :) x

wow I didn't realise this was posted 8 months ago. there was a marathon held 3 weeks ago in my country and I took part in one of the side races which is the 10km. It was really amazing to see the marathon runners go. this year an ethopian won the woman's race and a kenyan won the man's. there were also people running for charity and i heard quite a big sum was raised. that's great isn't it? to challenge people to fitness and also to raise money at the same time.
