Do you ever just really miss your mom and dad?

I was just sitting here talking to my fiance about my dad coming in town. I just all of a sudden got this overwhelming feeling of missing my dad. I haven't seen him in about 5 years so this visit is well overdue. I just can't believe this feeling that I just got of missing him so much. Maybe it's because I know he is coming soon and the visit will be over so soon. It can just be so tough living away from your parents, especially when they are so far away. My dad lives over 1,000 miles away and my mom lives about 800 miles away. And I think the thing that really kills me is that they are missing out on getting to know their granddaughter and she's not getting to know them. Anyone else have experiences like this? How do you deal with having parents that live so far away?

My kids are both married and my oldest lives a 9 hour drive away and she calls me everyday. We go down to see her and her family every 3 months. She comes home about 3 times a year. We are missing out on seeing our grandchildren but we call them (the grandkids are only 2 and 3) and talk to just them. We mail them packages and they draw us pictures. they scan the pictures adn we print them off and put the on our fridge. We video tape ourselves reading a childs book and send it to them. So they know who we are.
Yes, I think it is normal to miss your parents. I still miss mine often.
