a good method to keep food warm, do you know?

when I cook some food ,it is easy to become cool. Recently, I found if I keep some oil on the surface of the food , the food will keep warm for a longer time. do you think this method is good ?

Just keep it in the oven until you are ready for it. Keep it on low, like 300.
