Ever lost a pet tragically?

I had a gorgeous staffy/boston terrier cross, and he had a beautiful nature. He was wide across the chest as staffy's are, and was a mottled grey colour. He used to love spending time with people. The trouble was, he was an escape artist, and if ever my wife and I went for a walk without him, we'd soon find him trotting along behind us.So, I built a higher fence. Still managed to get out. In the end, we had to tie him up. One day, we came home, and he had still managed to jump the fence, but he was still tied up. The rope was both, too long, and not long enough. You can imagine my horror. I blamed myself, and still beat myself up about it. I even tried mouth to snout, but to no avail. It's hard enough to lose a pet, but worse if it's your fault.

Wehn I was too small to know the scientific term used to describe the breed of dogs we had a sweet little doggy and I used to call him doggy. When day when we reached back home from market our neighbours told that somehow he managed to get out of the fencing and also under the front tyre of their car and that's that.

That is also quite sad to run over one's own pet. I had a cat that use to purposely run ahead of my car when I pulled into my driveway. Luckily I never hit him.

My old boy Dino was a lab/sheperd mix. Weighed in at about 120 pounds. Lived till he was 15 years old Had to Dino the vet in the fall and gave a great bill of health. Not a thing wrong with him for his age. I was totally pleased. Just after the 1st weekend in Dec He started to get sick I mean really sick. No vets in our town and would have had to drive 4 hours to find one. It would not have made a diference anyway. He went downhill soooo fast. He being sick and pooping riveres of blood. Nasty stuff. He lost about 25 pounds in one night. In my heart I knew someone poisoned him Being a nurse as well told me so. Nothing we could do about it. Called the family Doc and ended up taking there to have him put to sleep. I cried for days. He was my hunting partner, swimming partner, and hiking partner. I still miss him dearly. Wish I could prove who did it Cause I would be sorely tempted to do the same thing to him Just to see how they would feel. Found oout after spring thaw that he was given red antifreeze in his water bucket. How cruel is that. Had to wait till the ground thawed out enough to bury him. That was ever so hard to do Not my fault but I do feel your pain about your loss too Wendy

I don't know what goes through the mind of someone sick enough to poison an animal. They are the lowest form, I think. It's hard enough to lose a pet anytime, without someone adding to their pain and yours. It would be nice to be able to punish them the same way, but more often then not, they get away with it. Thanks for sharing your story.
