Hand shake is a good will gesture and I believe that one who does it is so, much social and keeps the moral values. I do try my best to shake hand to people either who meet for the first time or those who are met even after a day ... like my colleagues, friends etc. If somebody is seen doing something bad by hand then would you go for hand shake or just say hello and pass on? I would frankly admit that surely I would shake the hand in order to be social but try to wash for the sake of hygiene. What about you?

Yeah I do agree for all your comment but I have already given a comment to one of friends here that if somebody is putting his hand in his armpit or in a sweaty feet with smell and you just come to meet him unhhh I don't think its better to remain without hand wash after hand shake! :) Do you think thats also social? Thanks for your kind words too.

Well, if my hand was dirty and someone wanted to shake my hand I would try to wipe it off on something or explain to the person that my hand is dirty. That way I would release them from the obligation of shaking my hand. If I shook someone's hand that was dirty I would wash it later.

well, at times when i know that my hands are dirty, i explain to them why i can't shake their hands, too in the best nicest way i can to not make them feel offended at all. i even apologize for not shaking their hands. take care!

i a person reaches his/her hand to shake my hand, i gladly give out and reach, too. but i do it quickly especially if i don't know the person really. if they won't do the first move, i just nod my head and say hello or a hi with a smile on my face. and nope, i don't wash my hands after a handshake. i think it's so unnecessary and disrespectful to do so. happy myLotting!

I have to shake hands constantly every day because I am attending meetings and it is the correct protocol. I will always shake hands with a male and will only shake hands with a woman if she makes to offer her hand first. I am not being sexist, I just allow the woman to call the shots first. As for washing my hands afterwards; I am not concerned too much about doing this. I do however recall one meeting I had with this guy that had a cold. All throughout the meeting he kept sneezing into his hand and rubbing his snotty nose with his hand as well. All I could think about was that at the end of the meeting I would have to shake his hand! After the meeting (and of course after having to shake his hand) I not only ran off to the bathroom to wash my hands but made everyone else that shook his hand was their hands as well! It was disgusting!

Hello, alosad,I think it is a good way to show your politeness if you shake hands with other actively,it is just a way to greet someone,I do not think of the hygiene issue, I do not think it is a great deal to shake hands if someone if their hands are not clean, you will not get any diseases so easily through body contact, so do not worry too much.

I have no problemm in shaking hands with people, if they are neat and clean. If the person is dirty in clotes Or does some dirty work with hand , in that case I will avoid shaking hands. In that case I will greet him with folded hand at the time of intoduction or meeting.

I shake hands mostly with people whom am meeting for the first time.I just dotn wash hands immediately after a hand shake..some time i go into an hour conversation with them so its not possible for me to interrupt and wash my hands. It really depends and differs from one to another.

I really don't like to shake hands but like you, I will do it just to be social. I wouldn't touch food unless I first washed my hands but I would do this either way. I am always afraid of germs being spread by shaking hands and I try to wash mine as quickly as possible afterwards.

A very timely question. I just had an experience about handshaking yesterday. I was eating in a restaurant in our town and saw an election candidate went to the Comfort room. I noticed how long it took him inside so I thought he is .. ya know! When he got out, he handshook everyone in the restaurant. I didn't look in his direction because I dont want to shake hands with him. Considering that I am eating at that moment and knowing how long it took him inside the comfort room. =)

Handshaking is not as widely used anymore in my circles, for one reason or another. Last hand shake I had was with my mobile mechanic when he came to my home. I must admit first chance I had I did go in and rinse my hands off. When in public I keep a small bottle of gel that is a germ killer great when unable to get to a sink. lol

Handshakes - Shaking hands when we meet
honestly, every time i make hand shakes to anyone it is with the good intention that i have respect and accept him as he is. well, as to your query about washing our hands after the handshakes, i see nothing wrong with it except that you should do it in private if possible. for hygiene purposes, we should wash our hands anytime specially before and after eating.
