I just couldn't believe it! Talk about being punished for other peoples' mistakes!! I heard that he was threatening to do this because he kept catching people surfing the net and being distracted from their duties. So he BLOCKED THE INTERNET!!!! How could anything be more HORRIBLE that that!?!?!? I work on teh graveyard shift, I have no duties except sit and try to stay awake! But now, becuse others were messing when they shouldn't have, I have NO INTERNET!!! AAAHHHHHHH!!!!
Ok, was that a bit too much drama? But still... things were fine until everyone started discovering that we had internet. I guess I should have kept that quiet. cuz no one knew we had it. So now we DON'T! So, needless to say, I am not on mylot hardly at all anymore. Since I had 32 hrs a week to sit and chat, now I have none. (*sniff*)
I hope you will miss me... as I will surely miss you. (*sniff*)
I'll be so... lost (*choked sob*) without you!
Oh, Sorry, I'll cut out the drama.
(I really am sad, though. I had a whole list of ideas to start discussions that fateful night...)

Oh I hate to hear that. I will miss you (*sniff sniff*) I would go completely stir crazy if I didn't have the internet to surf when I was bored. But I have taken up sewing dog clothes and trying to finish cross stitch kits.

I DO go stir crazy now. But at least I can get focused on reading my Bible again.

I'm sorry! How dare he! LOL. I realize your job of night clerk at a motel is a little less than exciting...mostly just babysitting the desk. I know the internet helped pass the hours between your duties. Back to reading now, I guess. Just don't fall asleep!

Work??? Actually, I'm louging on the couch watching TV. We do have HBO, so that's nice. We used to have a DVD player, but he moved it for training somewhere else. Like I said, I have no duties at that hour. The Audit takes about 20 min, setting up breakfast is about an hour. The rest of the time, I just have to stay awake.

After all, work is work. Shouldn't be playing around on the Internet when you are suppose to be working. Is your manager paying you to work on the Internet? Nope. SO you really can't blame him. You can still put in a lot of post on myLot if you work hard enough when you are at home or something. Good luck.

But did you read what my duties are? At least I'm not sleeping! The guy who trained me takes about a 2 hr nap. I can't do that. And YES, I agree with what you said. I was going for the overly dramatic aspect. I still think that if I had covered my trackes better, so everyone else didn't start doing it, then it would have been tolerated more.

I am so sorry to hear this. I also had a graveyard shift job before (as a medical transcriptionist) and there were times when we get to finish our quota early and there was nothing else to do to pass the time. We were very discreet, though, in the use of the internet. I hope your boss would just punish those who got caught. Hehe. Too bad. Hope this problem gets to be fixed soon.

Darn thats bad news. I suppose he has the right to do it if people misuse it, now you have to suffer by not surfing. Well, now you are forced to get internet at home otherwise you will miss out on a whole lot at myLot. As for the graveyard shift, I know what you mean, it is the longest time of your life. I feel like sobbing just thinking of it. I have a suggestion, work hard and become the manager and put the internet back on LOL. good luck. Blessings.

well, i am also not allowed to use the internet when i am working... only when i am on my break then i can use it in the common room... that's the reason i am only on mylot for an hour a day after i finish my work... i don't think it is horrible... i think what your manager doing is fair... since he is paying you to work and not to surf the net during working times... i will also do the same thing if i am the manager... i wouldn't like to see my co-workers lazying around and surfing the net when they are supposed to work... this is my opinion...

In all reality I have to agree with your boss. If it truly was interferring with peoples work then yes it should be turned off. Granted it is not fair to those like you but for those who really have to work they are not getting there jobs done the way the company wants them to because of the internet.
You will just have to do some old fashioned reading for a change.

Sorry to hear that hun, however, these days there are a lot of people abusing their internet connections at work and perhaps your boss decided to pull the plug. It happened with a friend of mine who actually ended up getting an official warning for surfing the net while at work, and she could have been sacked.
Time to get some good books perhaps,

I know how you feel, My work just started haveing there blocking software set to block message boards which includes Mylot. I can still use the internet but the sites they are blocking are getting more and more all the time. I relize that I'm not there to cruise the net or anything( in fact I spend very little time on the computer) but sinse its there, I dont see why I cant use it on breaks or something. Take care!!

Not sure just what your normal job duties are supposed to be, but if I had to sit for extended periods with little or nothing to do, I would not only get very bored, but I think I'd begin to wonder why I was employed at all--lol. Does your job involve a lot of waiting for work? I.E., responding to phone calls, etc. I can't quite fathom a job with nothing to do.
However, if that's what it is, that's ok...but I agree you'd need something to help pass the time! I wonder why they would object to your internet use if you truly have nothing else to do, and you're keeping up with what your normal duties are.
Puzzling!!!
Good luck though!

I'm just basically there in case someone needs something. If no one needs anything, then I just sit. We do have late check-in's that I handle, but not very many. I just babysit the hotel for the night.

wow did you do all your mylot postings at work? but if you work the graveyard shift well i can understand how will you stay awake now. i think you should have access to the internet though even if its only for security so you could send a sos message if anything happened yes i suppose when you told them then everyone at work started using the internet hope you find time to use mylot somewhere else

The thing is, are you authorized to use the Internet even when you are on night shift? If the answer is yes, speak to your manager and highlight your situation to him. I am sure he can unblock it for you and you only.
Otherwise, you were doing something against the company policy anyway so you have no cause for complaint. :P

Oh that is a big fat drag! I bet it was the only thing keeping you awake! Now I bet he is going to pay you to snooze! I guess he isn't too smar or thatwould have already occured to him. I think the other folks are right, try to use his computer because I bet it isn't blocked!
