Why did the first man ride a horse, what would have prompted rhis action. I'd love to hear your views please. Quote references where possible. :-)

well i suppose he thought it would get him to where he was going quicker than if he had to walk

Taurusgirl, I agree with you, but it really cannot be that straight forward. I believe the early man had more pressing issues than to get somewhere quicker. You wouldn't happen to know when the first instance of this would have been, would you? Plus as a carnivore the early man's first instinct should have been to eat the horse.:-)

Maybe he just got sick of walking? He probably thought that since horses are larger than people they could support our weight.
