Do you have a plan in play for the possibility of a fire breaking out in your home? Have you practiced with your children or discussed what should be done if a fire breaks out?:)+

No. The only thing I have done is to take a fire insurance policy. But you are right, everyone should have a plan in play for that possibility and also should practice what to do in that case. Fortunately I live on a second floor, so it's quite easy to run out of the building.

No. Here in Uruguay there is no obligation for buildings to have a fire escape. I think you refer to the iron stairs outside the building we always see in the movies when the "heroe" gets hold of the "bad boy".

YEs..older buildings had them..I think, however ..even here they dont have them..they have stairways that are blocked by a fire door..etc.:)+

Right now it seems easy to run out of the building; but in a fire situation you never know who else will be running out and whether the doorway you would be going out would be blocked or the place of the fire..Are there fire escapes in your building?:)+

we don't even have fire alarms, which is bad. since you mention it I will install them, or have them installed.

I have had a fire in my home, but I was living in another town, so I wasn't home, but it is bad, and I know all of us should have preparations for this in case it did happen. Fire alarms are the best things to have.

I do have a plan if there is a fire in my house. That is to get the heck out of my home. :-) I have two working smoke detectors and have a couple fire extinguishers in my home as well. I can get out of the house easily through the back and front doors or jump out the second story window which is not very high. I do practice drills at work with my students as well in case of a fire or bomb threat or any other type of emergency.

Of course, Ken, with your boyscout training and your knowledge of knots you could tie the bedsheets together and slide down them safely..dont you think:)+

Yes i do..all important documents like birth cert, marriage license, house title and the like are all in one bag and if that thing happen it's easy to grab and get out of the house with my children. But first and foremost i got an insurance for my house.

I think that is a wonderful idea: putting your importan documents in the bag and making sure that you children are safe is more important..Glad you have a plan..It helps to know what you would do; were you in the midst of a fire;)+

I will do the only thing i can think off, grab my daughter & get my partner to grab by bird & then out we go! I cant explain to my daughter yet coz she's far too young but i will make sure she knows she can go out the window if she needs to - when she's older of course! I hope it never happens though! The only reason i say grab my bird, he's my other baby! He's 2 1/2 now but i've had him for 2 years, he's a sulfur crested cockatoo & is a HUGE part of the family so i would NEVER leave him inside to perish. All my other pets are outside already so they would be safe!

I understand..Animals are God's creatures..and I know I would definitely see to it that my cats are safely out of the burning house.. I have often looked at Fire Extinguishers in the walmart store. and tell myself that come payday I will get one...but then my other self tells me that no fire will happen in my house..I think I should get one though;)+
