I used to think when I was a kid that it was easy. I had this cousin, whose father was Chinese, and he spoke the language quite well. I tried to learn it from him, but I realized that Chinese was a pretty hard language to learn, if you're not Chinese. So I changed my opinion and decided that some languages are hard to learn, and some are not! I heard somewhere that Japanese was a pretty easy language to learn, so when I was in high school, I tried it. I gave up after a couple of weeks. I never could remember all the stuff, they all sounded the same to me! Then when I was in college, I enrolled in this Spanish class. I stopped attending after a couple of weeks, and eventually just dropped the subject. I don't know, maybe it's just me. I've heard of people who speak five, or seven, or even ten different languages. I guess it depends on your linguistic intelligence or something like that.

My native language is English and second langugage is Janpanese, and now I try my best to learn English. I think the most important thing for learning a langugae is to stick to it, no matter what effort you have to take. Also you had better have a motivation to push you on, if you really tried hard and make your best effort, you will succeed!

I took french for GCSE and found it quite difficult. Though that could have been the fact i never listened inm any of the lessons. Even though i didnt listen i still came out with a C. SO learning the language was difficult but the exam was easy :P

I only know English as a foreign language. The thing is I never made an effort to learn it, never studied, never memorized anything. I think the courses you take to learn a language have smaller effect than your ability and actually using the language. Overall I don't think learning a new language will be the hardest thing you've ever done but will require some effort nonetheless.

It IS hard to learn a foreign language. I've grown up being taught Welsh. I'm 17 now and I'm still not fluent-even though I've been learning it since the age of about 4. I also had to take French and Italian for a few years when I was younger, and I was never better than average at them. It all depends on how early you start learning the language, and what side of your brainis more dominant. Ride siders find it easier to pick up languages, generally =)

Firstly,I'd like to say there is big difference between western and eastern language system. That's the reason why it's normal for an Englishman can speak 3 or 4 language while chinese people just not usually do.Secondly, do you think your way to study a foreign language is right?Do you spend too much time on reading or reciting instead of speaking? At last, I have to say that only practice make perfect. That's not the problem of it is hard or not. The real thing is how much you want to make it done.

No, I don't think so. For me it was extremely easy to learn English, although I didn't show good writing skills before. But with time it has improved and now I don't feel uncomfortable while writing. I started learning Spanish last year and I see how much easier it is when you already know one language that gives you a start. Spanish has a lot of common words with the English and that's why it's easy for me. If you have a system how to study and if you can remember a lot of words then it won't be difficult for you to learn another foreign language.
