I visited a friend whilst I was on my day at the seaside, but unfortunately she was in an upstairs room getting ready to go to a meeting and was already late. She is a georgeous woman, and she was wearing a beautiful bronze silk petticoat, or at least the top of it was, which was all we could see as she literally hung out of the window explaining everything in a voice that boomed around half of Yarmouth. As I disappointedly got back into the car she appeared at another window, obviously a little worried that she had upset us, which she hadn't, so to reassure her I waggled my chest at her, belly dancer style. It did reassure her and her face lit up, but I put my neck and mid back out! Never Again! So come on, what is your experience of belly dancing and did you manage to cripple yourself too!

My goodness... the earth would shake and the natives would run in fright if I started Belly dancing. I don't need to shake my boobs either... they bounce well enough on their own, especially when I'm rushing for the bus! ha ha ha I hope your neck and back are better my friend. Brightest Blessings.

Oh lol! However, actually that is not true, you have an ideal form for this type of dancing and you would do very well with it, providing your knees held out, but according to all the blurb this type of exercise is very good for aches and pains. NOT! I am still in pain, and it is made worse by the fact it was me being stooooooopid that has aggravated the whiplash pain. It did cheer my friend up, though, she has been telling everyone about it, but she doesn't know I hurt myself.

Well, you don't need to do too much for too long, and you can still hold on to a walking stick. I don't do the moves properly, partly because my hip sticks and locks when it chooses too, but I have a lot of fun and nobody sees. Other Half is NEVER in the flat when I lark about with the belly dancing lol. However, I concede it was a huge mistake to wiggle at Gloria lolololol.

LOL... You and Gabs make a good pair!!! ha ha ha. I would love to learn belly dancing, but I'm not so sure my left knee would hold out and I'm darned sure I don't have the energy right now. lol.

Oh very funny indeed, Lakota, I did actually used to do a variation on the twist, I could do the standing up bit but when "up and down and round and down you go" I still had to stand lol. My hip slips sideways all on its own without warning and when I practiced alone I always fell. Belly dancing is billed as a gentle way to exercise without damaging your back etc. I have had a try at it (gabs, you dare comment on this and all hospital bets are off!) and I would like to be able to do it properly but maybe I should let the whiplash injury heal before I give it another go!

I smiled imagining that little scene, lol. I did a few belly dancing lessons a couple of years ago but they turned into belly-laughing lessons as I kept getting the giggles and thought I'd better stop going before I was banned. It's meant to be really good exercise. Nowadays I tend to dance round in the home if there's only me there - well and the sweeping brush of course, just have to remember not to get carried away and smooch with the brush, haha.

Well, I do like to please, Rainbow :-) I would have loved to be a fly on the wall at those lessons. I think belly dancing is great fun. Smooching the brush is OK as long as your boys haven't been dragging it round the mud patch lol.

when are you going to learn that I do things in a unique way and if I didn't you wouldn't have anything to laugh at? Yes, you did manage beautifully in those white stilettos and long may it last. Remember, however, that stilettos don't last very long if you stamp your little foot :-) I shall continue my private belly dancing with me walking stick and hopefully it will improve me balance!

Oh no that is not good at all that you damaged yourself when you were trying to enlighten your friend that you were not upset with her. In regards to belly dancing well you have to have a lot of experience to even attempt to try to do this as for myself no I have not ever damaged myself so far in regards to dancing as I used to be a professional dancer when I was young and so I should of danced for you instead and brighten all of you up!!

THAT is a great idea, get a surrogate dancer, luvvit! I used to jig about in what I called dancing but at the moment I get so exhausted and my balance is rubbish so I dare not try. I can do the chest shake etc sitting down, as I was sitting in the car. Forgot about the neck injury, and blonde is one thing, pain is quite another!

Oh, I have yet to hurt myself... I know it's coming though. I have a very bad back. All curvy and whatnot! LOL but I love it. But that is a very funny story, now i know what not to do or even try. =P

If you are sensible and warm up and do everything you are taught you will be fine. I was a bit daft, I had been sitting in the car for quite a while, I have back problems anyway and then I started shaking meself all about! The theory is that this gentle dancing strengthens the muscles and should help your back to be less painful, and I do hope that you find this to be the case.

I agree totally, which is why I am so disappointed that nothing seems to improve my flexibility, balance or lower my pain levels. Most people who practice belly dancing are very supple and seem to have a lot of stamina too, so I hope you will keep this activity up. Who knows, maybe one day you will be demonstrating the art of belly dancing on My Space and maybe teaching your own pupils!

Well My teacher said that after taking the class and practicing everyday that my back will get stronger and that I'll even not slouch! lol This woman has more stamina that I've ever seen. Anyways, my teacher is a grandmother! She has 4 kids too... this woman can go like an 1 hour straight and not be out of breath. I find that amazing, I definitly look up to her.

I have not personally hurt myself, but I have come out sore because I used some muscles that I hadn't in a while. And I love belly dancing, between that and colorguard I've learned out to shake some lol. I agree with SweetTatas01, that woman is amazing! Sweet and have taken classes together in the past and I love to practice with her it's fun. But our instructor is really amazing to go as long as she does and you see some of the girls that are like 15 or 16 who are really fit breathing heavy from all the exercise.

I am still trying to follow a DVD of belly dancing but I also do need my walking stick or I fall over, so I suppose I must make a very funny sight, but only my birds and fish get to see that lol. You will be extremely fit if you keep this up, and you will have a much better middle and old age as a result.

lol. Have you recovered? I've never attempted to belly dance. I don't dance much at all. I'm too inhibited for that. It seems that belly dancing is quickly becoming the new work out. I don't think I have it in me.

yes, I have recovered and I shall not be doing it again in a hurry, that is for certain. I am still practicing some of the moves very slowly though to try to increase my stamina and flexibility. I look silly using a walking stick and trying to belly dance but it is better than falling over lol. It is a shame you are too inhibited to dance, I don't look pretty when I dance either but I still do. Nowadays it is mostly indoors, because of my mobility problems and you may find practicing in your room or some other private space will improve your confidence. Even if nobody ever sees you dance, you will still increase your strength and flexibility :-)
