speedboat menace

We took time to relax by the Norfolk Broads whilst on a day trip. The Broads are beautiful, see this link www.norfolkbroads.com to get an idea, and ordinarily extremely peaceful.
However, there is always an insect in the ointment. A speedboat was racing around, causing swell, aggravating dogs and generally presenting a menace. The water board police as ever were nowhere to be seen.
Other Half has been in the forces and can handle a boat, but seeing the sheer stupidity of the speedboat driver put me totally off a boating holiday. The driver of that speedboat was an accident waiting to happen.
If you drive a speedboat please do not get upset here. I am not rubbishing the sport, just the inconsiderate nature of someone practicing a sport in a totally inappropriate area.

how lovely for you. Did you ever see any of those special Nofolk butterflies, they are black and white with very distinctive markings.

What ARE you like! You go to Tenerife and eat kebabs and you go on the broads and miss the butterflies!
Am I going to have to train you or what! I know you are probably dodging low flying objects, tripping over Gissi and looking out to catch Mum, but there is sooooooooooo much out there!
Maybe we will drag you back to the Broads in the summer, and equip you with binoculars, they really spectacular butterflies.
The Norfolk Broads is a very special area of interest with expanses of open ... Nature lovers flock here to see the rare bittern and swallowtail butterfly. ...

There, until we take you, you can get a glimpse of what you are missing, my Child.

Exactly! They wouldn't expect someone to send a herd of stampeding elephants through a picnic zone, so why do they think a speedboat among domestic boats is such a hoot! Everything is great fun in its place, yes?

When we went on the Broads we were only allowed to do 5 knots I think it was and the wash from that when we passed other boats was enough with a small baby who could hardly even move his head for the lifejacket, bless him.
It is really pretty, but I thought speedboats were for the sea or the reservoir. What a shame these inconsiderate water users spoiled your fun. I have never met anyone behaving badly when we've hired a boat but wouldn't consider a boating holiday until the boys are much bigger, unless I could tie them to the mast or something, lol.

Nah! Tie them to the mast and give them a nice big power hose so that they can douse the idiots in the speedboats! They would love that :-)
Yes, this speedboat should not have been where it was, which is why I was so annoyed. We were considering a boating holiday so that if we do go away nobody will be able to launch themselves down to spend a day with us (NO I do not mean you-know-who)but the usual suspects which have dogged our rest days in the past, which has made us opt for the waters lol. This certainly has made me think more than twice, since, as you know I am extremely clumsy and will probably need a baby rein to make sure I don't fall overboard, without the bad luck which I also possess lol.

I am not into speedboats. It must have felt aweful that speedboat driver would ruin your boating holiday by being inconsiderate towards you and diriving speedboat in an inapporpriate area. The water board police should have been present in the area. Such people need to be reported and fined. Good luck.

I am not against speedboats in their correct environment. Although not a lover of speed myself I can understand that some people gain a genuine sense of freedom and power rocketing over the waves. It is the senseless irresponsibility which as you rightly say should be curbed. It is fate though that the person who can actually curb them is rarely present on the scene, sigh.

Oh yes it is lovely to be down by the seaside but a lot of speedboats can be a real menace and do not careless about other people. We are not allowed to have dogs in these kind of places. Oh yes it would be wonderful to have a boating holiday but when you see who else is out there it makes you think twice before you would really want this kind of holiday. I understand completely as my mother used to live in an area where too many speedboats where doing silly things and not considering those around them.

hmmmm I suppose that puts things into perspective really. I was absolutely horrified and it has definitely put me off a water holiday, but when you consider the number of speedboats careering around and the very few number of accidents, I suppose they can not be as dangerous as I fear.
