Do you think faith is a necessary component to atheism?

for me i don't know its a big maybe but more of a if faith is a component which is a bigger leap..

if you are athiest...you have no christian faith. i don't know what you would have faith in, except faith in your own abilities and understanding of the world. athiest means non belief in ANY diety. How Sad:)

Well i think there is some faith involved, you're right thoguh its not christian faith. But its a faith in sceince and a faith compassion maybe. But if we can make the case for an atheist with faith then how do you qualify different types of faith?

Missbossyboots why is this sad? I think it is enlightened, not sad. Believe it or not, there are many people who are living quit happy lives with no Christian faith and no need for a supernatural being to direct their lives.
