How do you find people who step on others toe to be promoted?

I was about midway up my climb up the corporate ladder when I recieved some bad news. My program was ending. I am a supervisor, and there was one more supervisor that had to apply for the same position. She did not have any training experience, and did not know the system, but I feel totally because she was friends with a manager from another program she was able to get a position that I had applied for. She once told me that it did not matter who you had to step on to get to the top as long as you are not comming back down. I know that I deserved the position more than her, and now I am looking at the possibility of unemployment. Somethimes things really just dont work out the way that they are supposed tod.

I don't feel they do. If you are good at what you do you don't need to step on anyones toes to get where you want to go. I don't think it is right and I would never do it.

absolutely those type of person are the ones who will never make a good boss, since they will not be fair. i dont like them and i hope not to have superiors like them.

For me of course i hate people like this, they use other people to get promotion, if their want promotion they need work them self if in the teamwork this person is deserve if this person is the leader. I think if someone get promoted this way people will hate him, and most of the people will try no to stay clese to this person. If this person is become boss so that is realy-realy bad situation. So if this happen to me, i will start to post my resume to other company and start looking for new job. This person will not be the good boss.

Those type of people need to be prayed for, they need all the help they can get! I don't hate their guts, but I do feel sorry for them....all they care about is that next promotion, and not about the people around them. The same people they have treated badly to get that promotion may be the same people that end up working under them, and they will not be all that accomodating when it comes to being asked to do something by this person. Not caring about your fellow workers, can jump up to bite you when it comes to needing their help later on.

Those are the people who I hate the most. It seem that they don't know how to feel and just take advantage of your goodness and don't know how to keep their word. Just like what happened to me, but I get out before they can do it to me. Atleast now I know their real behaviour.
