What is this world coming to?? Now I hear that they are going to be putting an appetite suppresant in baby formulas. What is wrong with people? The so called experts say that it will stop obesity. Are they all off their rockers or what? Obesity is caused by different things..such as genetics and eating habits to name a few. I already think that there is a lot of "crap" in baby formula and that is sad enough but now to hear that they are going to be putting something in formula to suppress the appetite in a newborn..that makes me sick!! They say that the appetite suppressant will chemically alter their metabolic systems. Does anyone think that this is messing with the natural system? Well I do. Do you realize that we are slowly killing ourselves? Now we are going to start this process with babies? That just isnt right. I am a firm believer in breastfeeding...now more than ever!! I urge all of you that do not want to breastfeed to use organic formula and not use formula enhanced with this appetite suppresant. Do not allow the government to kill your children, slowly or any way!!!! How does everyone else feel about this? Is it so important for you to know that your baby will never be obese that you will risk the other problems that will come along with this. You watch and you will see that in a few years..they will find something very wrong with what they did. Just watch!!!

It is totally rediculous that they would even consider putting appetite suppresants in baby formulas!! I would think that this would cause much more harm to the little ones rather than help stop obesity. You are right, there are many different factors that cause obesity. I don't think that right now there are any babies that are on formula that are obese. This really sickens me!

That is horrendous! I have a 15-month old that I started off with mixed feeding because I had a Caesarian section. He decided to drop the formula and nursed exclusively for a few months before he had solid foods. I, too, believe that mother's milk is the best food for babies. But if my son had wanted to bottlefeed, I wouldn't want him to have anything unnatural added to it. It is said that babies eat just enough until they're full. They don't have the tendency to overeat. Obesity in infants and small children which can not be attributed to any medical condition would be due to overfeeding. Thus, it would be the parent's or caregiver's doing because the baby can not feed himself. I don't think adding an appetite suppresant would solve this problem. We need to get better educated on proper nutrition land eading a healthy lifestyle.

Yea I too feel sorry for this act . It seems they are punishing the innocent babies without their knowledge.Obesity is sometimes a heridetory decease and cant be avoided ,sometimes other causes remain latent for being obese. Sometimes passing grownup age reduce obeseity autometically. So there are different reasons for being obese. But preventing to become obese by medication from the infant stage is a bit harsh act agaisnt natural process. This shouldnt be encouraged by the parents to avoid further complication in the long run when the baby in his/her grown up stage.

People nowadays resort to options which are not really the answers for modern problems. They want easier solutions to big problems which is in the end creating another problem. Many parents are now asking how come our children are so wild now compared to us when we are still kids? I guess what we have to blame aside from how busy our parents right now are also what they are eating. Everything in the supermarket are highly formulated which are all artificial. Like what the saying goes, we are what we eat. So by putting so much into our food we are actually creating and molding dangerous human beings.

This really does sound completely insane. I sure hope that mothers who use formula will protest against this crazy development.

I competely agree with u.They should atleast leave the baby food out of this.As it is nowdays there is so much presuure on looking thin and people are starving themselves to look thin, atleast let the babies remain free from all this presuure.

To me this just shows how obsessed our society has become about weight. I've seen kids where if they gain a few pounds their parents put them on diets. I'm not talking ten or more but just two or three pounds. To do this just indicates how our society is more concerned about weight then they are about the welfare of children. I know my one brother has watched everything my neice has eaten. Made sure she didn't over eat, eats only healthy things and is very active. Guess what, didn't matter. She's still becoming plumb. I did read an article about this but it will not be happening for at least a good ten years. They hope though with it to make it so that if a baby drinks it they will never be able to get obeses. To me that seems highly unlikely but even if their claims are true I have to wonder what else it will do to the babies. Obesity is not just caused by poor eating or over eating. I know many don't want to hear that but it's true. I know many who are over weight who don't eat as much as others and eat healthy. Some of it has to do with how the body is not what they eat. Sad but true. I know it's easier to try and blame it on poor eating habits but it's not always the case. They really need to rethink this before implementing it. Who knows what the long term effects could be.

OMG !!!! Thats quite shocking actually. I wouldnt have known if you didnt say anything. How dare they do this. Its wrong and yet they are going to get away with it. My bubs on formula now only because I dried up, even though I chose the best formula to put him on, I am just so angry about this, because really you are putting the babies lives in their hands, when in all honesty these products should be able to be trusted.

That is just disgsting! i can't believe they are doing that! Obesity has MUCH more to do with genetics and eating habits than it does anything else. What do they think is going ot happen? Babies are going to start refusing their formula? i mean, COME ON! Babies are supposed to eat. They need the nutrition. If what they are being fed is suppresing thier appetites, they won't get the nutrients they need. i understand not wanting a morbidly obese baby becuase that is unhealthy, but so what if your baby is a little chubby? babies are SUPPOSED to be chubby!

Are they nuts? these people who are trying to alter the natural system just for the sake of assuring themselves that their children won't get a few extra pounds must be really crazy. why would they put their children's health at stake? and besides, as what you have said, obesity is just a matter of ones eating habits or genetics...and it doing away with obesity doesn't have to go to the extent of resorting to those formulas.

So glad that I am done having children and that my son will be off of formula in about 3 weeks. That is just crazy. I don't think that they should try suppressing the appetities of babies come on their babies and they need to grow leave their stuff alone.

r u sure? It makes no sense for them to do that and I very much doubt they would get fda approval if they did. There are v strict guidelines regarding food and nutrition for babies, not to mention safety guidelines.
