"gross" remedies

I am told that applying Preparation H (hemroidal cream) to your face as a face cream will help eliminate small wrinkles and fill in little lines. I know it sounds gross, but really it is what the product is normally used on that is gross, and not the product itself. Consider that preparation H works by shrinking *erm* shall we say, "delicate tisse"? apply a little bit each night as your facial cream and try not to think about where others use it! (I would definitely purchase a private tube for my uses though, just to make sure everything is copasetic) got stinky feet? spray some rubbing alcohol in your shoes and on your feet - it will kill the odor causing bacterias - you could also add a smidgen of essential oil (I am thinking peppermint!) do you know of any unusual remedies that you would like to share here?

woooo I will have to let my 17 year old that tip! we are going to be meeting his gal pal at the end of this month (he will be meeting her in person for the first time) and I know the nervousness and that old lawyer Murphy will likely leave him with a few blemishes to mark both the occasion and his face!

prep H is also great for pimples-it shrinks the inflamed tissue so you don't have to go to work with a big red glaring one.

In the spring to boost weight loss, for about 2 weeks drink two cups daily of dandelion root tea, this will boost any weight loss program you may try, it also is best to try weight loss programs when the spring starts because our bodies will be reacting naturally to the changing season and will be less inclined to store fats at this time.

I never knew that about the spring or the tea. Can you buy dandelion root tea at a grocery store or is it available at health food stores? It is spring and time to try and shed some pounds again.

I haven't used Preperation H as a general face cream but I have used it for bags under my eyes when I'm sleep deprived and it works miracles! A friend of mine who is a make up artist gave me that tip (apparently make up artists sometimes use it on models for photographic work) but she did say to only use it when absolutely necessary and not as a regular thing so maybe it can also have harmful effects too!

I had heard about the preperation H in fact I had seen a woman who started using it when she was around 35, but the time I saw she was 62. She looked like she was 49 or so, I guess it worked. I read an article ones on blisters you know when you do a lot of walking how the balls of your feet get sore, sometiems even blister? Duct Tape: A walking friend of mine uses duct tape on his feet to prevent blisters on the ball of the foot. He says the key is to get the soft tape that doesn't have the strapping threads in it, and to always use it whenever you walk, not just on the long walks. Benefits are that it is cheap - a giant roll doesn't cost much, and you may already have some in the house. The drawback could be getting a skin allergy to the adhesive. Be alert for signs of redness and itching and discontinue use if these develop. Duct tape can also work by making it into a bandage so that the adhesive is not over the sensitive area. Take a piece of duct tape and trim it so it is slightly larger than the sensitive area. Then stick it on a larger piece of duct tape, the sticky sides together. Now apply it over over the area -you have the slick, non-adhesive side next to the skin, with the larger piece sticking it all in place. For Cough Fill a cut lemon with black pepper and salt and suck on it, reduces the intensity of the cough. or eat grapes this acts as expectorant. Dry Skin : massage dry skin with olive oil before going to bed every night. Warts : rubbing a piece of chalk on the area frequently will remove wart in few weeks. applying fresh cut pinapple to the area frequently will remove the wart in a few days. Dark circles under eyes : apply crushed mint leaves for 20 minutes or make mixture of crushed almonds, and milk apply under the eye for 10 minutes daily. Teeth Whitening : mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to form tooth paste, it will whiten teeth, [and it keeps some of the more harmful chemicals that in some toothpastes from getting into your system.] This should whiten teeth within a month. Sunburn : take soft towels, wet them with cold water and put them in the freezer for a few minutes, wrap the areas affected by the sunburn with the towels it draws the heat to the surface so as towel warms this may burn a bit, but keep other towels in the freezer keep rotating the towels from the freezer to the skin as the ones on the skin get warm change them out, keep doing this until no more heat can be felt in the skin. This will prevent that burning feeling that follows you for days after a sun burn, and the cool/cold towels are soothing make sure you use soft towels not scratchy ones as the scratchy feeling will be worse when they are frozen. After there is NO more heat coming from the burn, apply vitamin E lotion to help prevent the dryness and itching that follows sunburns. My mother was someone who could get sun poison just from driving to work she was so sensitive, so I know how effective this towel method can be, for really bad sun burn you may be rotating towels from the freezer for hours. For milder sunburn should take less than 2 hours to alleviate the problem. This is very beneficial for those who may burn their shoulders and don't know how they are going to be able to tolerate bra straps the next day.

Oh boy I had to laugh when I read this I bought preparation H once and yes for the purpose it was intended for. Well let me tell you that cream wasn't there for any longer than 5 seconds tops and I could have passed cars on the highway in bear feet. I thought I had problems before I just didn't know what to do. I finally after trying to wipe this stuff away I ran a tub of water, I normally like a hot bath, well apparently that was my second mistake. I then ran cooler water and that helped some, but I was not a happy camper for a good two weeks after that. Never again will I buy that fire starter. LOL

My MIL likes to use Vagisil for bug bites and rashes. Well, it does alleviate itching, right? It really works well on those bites!! :) Personally, I used toothpaste on the bug bites. Not the gel stuff, but plain average ordinary toothpaste.

ooooh yeah vagisil is certainly the kind of answer this post should instigate. lol. I think I would probably be more apt to use the toothpaste as well. at least there is no stigma in purchasing it. I wonder if it is not the baking soda in toothpaste that actually does the work?

hmm. i am a pharmacist but i did not know about another use of anti-hermorrhoidal creams. eheh. but i think there's a good point to that. however, for people who have sensitive facial skins, better to test the product on a small part of the face. anti-hemorrhoidal creams are composed of strong ingredients (ofcourse. that's why it keeps hemorrhoids away. hehe). if allergy and itchiness result after some minutes, don't try it on your face. or else, you might have a hemorrhoidal face. gosh! but i think, it really takes away the wrinkles. eggs and oatmeals on your face feel a bit gross for minutes. but the results they say are great. drinking pure eggs helps build muscles.. yuck! eating fresh tomatoes... two ripe tomatoes in the morning can be good breakfast to those who are dieting.. yuck again! hehe. happy myLotting though we're talking about grossy stuffs here. hehe. have a nice day modestah!

thank you for the great advice to test a sample area of skin first! probably on the inside of the wrist, huh? since that seems to be a sensitive area. happy my-lotting yourself, maryannemax!

When using Preperation H on your face, take care that you don't get it on your lips. It makes them pucker up and you keep getting kissed all the time!

Okay, you asked for it! Ha! I moved to this remote Appalachian town 13 years ago, and have heard many odd home remedies. The one that pops up most often is a treatment for cold sores. Patients will see that I have a cold sore and say to me, "You know that if you put some ear wax on that it will go away real quickly." I haven't tried it as yet...just can't bring myself to try!

I was told once that if you have a yeast infection then to put yogurt on/in it and then that would take care of it. I know that for a baby diaper rash what we found works the best is a layer of cornstartch, A&D, cornstartch, Desitin, and cornstartch and it will be gone in no time. Another thing that we found is that A&D works great for adult chaffing.

WEll this is gross and i mean very gross so brace yourself ok. I am from a very rural area in Canada on the coast and fishing is a big thing for our people. This was told to me by more than one fisherman. If they got cut out on the boat they urinate on the cut. It heals faster than anything in the first aid kit now that is just plain gross isnt it but so true although i have never tried it and doubt very much that i will .lol.

I am not surprised. I learned in Nursing School that fresh urine is antiseptic and sterile - the trouble is after it is exposed to air it quickly attracts bacteria...so I would reckon after you "treat" your cut you would need to wash off the "ahem" solution. my health teacher in highschool insisted that urine dabbed onto your facial blemishes would get rid of the zits faster and cheaper than any over the counter remedy.

I'm getting old and the wrinkles are coming. I am tempted to try this remedy. It seems the simplest are sometimes the best. I don't know how unusual it is but when I get bitten by mosquitoes I make a paste of water and baking soda and slap it on the bites to take the itching away. I was badly bitten camping last summer and I was slathering this paste all over my legs at work and as it dried it flaked off onto the floor, it looked like I had leg dandruff. So i think it is something done better at home!

You never know what you will learn on this site! I have one that works too! If bitten by a bee/wasp, run for the meat tenderizer! Make a paste with water and apply. It takes the sting out by chemically breaking down the protein.

The other day, after eating in a certain restaurant, I felt a pretty bad case of food poisoning coming on. I remembered being told that lemons are anti-bacteria(anti-fungal too) but I was out of fresh lemons so I took a bottle of reconstituted lemon juice and added it to a glass of filtered water (the ratio was 1/3 lemon juice to 2/3 water. Within 10 minutes all the signs of food poisoning were gone!

My mother, when we weren't financially stable, she couldn't afford many beauty products. I remember her using egg whites to do her facials. I guess it works becuase she did it for years twice a week, and she is 57 now and they think she is my daughters mom. She looks like she is in her mid 40's these days. I am definitely going to try that Prep H thing! Discreetly of course.

The body shop makes a pepermint foot spray and it works great on stinky shoes and shin guards, It also feels good on tired feet!
