Well, it would depend on what type of home do you have. Do you have children, other pets, live in an apartment, do you have big yard, etc, etc? I would reccommend looking at these websites: www.puppyfind.com or www.akc.org. Both of the sites have information about all the breeds out there. I would start with the first site as you can specify if you want a small, medium or large dog and then go from there. My favorite house dog when I was growing up was a beagle. They are very low maintenance and very good with other house animals. The only downfall is some do like to constantly howl. Good luck with your search and hope that you find the dog of your dreams!

What is your living situation? Apartment, House with backyard? 500 acres in rural Montana? Do you want long or short hair? Are you willing to do some grooming yourself? What about exercise requirements? Are you an active person, go jogging? Would the dog come along? Would you be interested in getting involved in one of the dog sports. . rally, obedience, agility? Small dog? Big dog? Medium dog? Purebred or mix? Until you answer these questions for yourself no one on mylot will be able to help you! lol Remember when you DO settle on a breed, find a responsible breeder in your area or contact breed rescue or your local animal shelter. Never ever buy a dog from a pet store.

It depends on you! There are so many great breeds of dog out there. My personal favorite is The Saint Bernard. I love all large breed dogs. What personality traits are you looking for? Loyalty, protection, friendly, cautious etc. There are lots of great dogs in shelters that need good homes -- and maybe you can even find a mixed breed to fit your lifestyle.

I have a shih-tzu named Katie and she is really great. She is low energy which means she isn't hyper and bouncing off the walls. A walk once or twice a week and the dog is happy. ( My shih-tzu and I go for a walk a lot more then once or twice a week, but I'm saying that low energy dogs don't need that many walks is just an estimate.) Shih-tzu's are also great with kids, ( Katie and my 10 month old are the best of friends.) Shih-tzu's are also very low shedders so you don't have to worry about alergies or picking up a ton of dog hairs. Shih-tzu's are also very friendly dogs and usually get along well with other dogs and people. Those are my thoughts on shih-tzu's.

What size of dog do you want? A big dog or a little one? Will you want to keep it inside all the time or a mixture of both? I have a chihuahaua and she is the sweetest thing ever. She is so easy to take care of and is a lot of fun. Then I have a lab who is a lot bigger and she is hyper and loves to play but I wouldn't trade her for anything. Then I have a black mouthcur dog who loves to play and is smart. He likes to get into things sometimes but all dogs do and he is still a puppy. I have a pug who is so cute and sweet. She loves to play and loves water. She is smart and very alert. Then I have an australian shepard and he is amazing. He is smart, loves to play, is a little overweight (lol he's on a diet), and minds very well. Good luck in your search.
