Sanitary napkins or tampons?

For the ladies here --- I've never used tampons in my entire life so in my case, obviously I choose sanitary napkins. I'm a bit obsessive compulsive about the brand of the napkins, though. I just really need to buy one brand because when I tried the others, I either developed rashes or they just didn't fit right, for the lack of a better way to describe it. What about you?

neither. mooncup. it's a reusable medical grade silicon menstrual cup. it's economical, lasts up to 10 years and costs £20 ish. it's environmentally friendly. just think how much less waste in landfill and sewers. it's more practical, you only need to empty it about twice a day. 4 at the very heaviest. it's healthier. no fibres to dry you out, no TSS risk.

well in my honest opinion... maybe TMI here. it isn't as stale as on a tampon. it stays red and runny instead of going stale. I don't think there's enough air in there to make it a hygiene problem. the blood certainly looks and smells cleaner than on tampons or pads. I mean if you think about it, in a tampon it gets partially dried out, and stays against your skin. in the cup you don't really come into contact with it unless you're lying down.

also, the cup is silicon, so there are no fibres which provide more suitable environment for the bacteria.

I use tampons. I think they are much cleaner. It is important to change them regularly though to prevent toxic shock syndrome.

Thanks for your response! How long have you been using tampons? Have you ever felt any discomfort at all?

Well actually come to think about it they weren't comfortable until after the birth of my first child. They say that if you put them in right you shouldn't be able to feel them so I don't know if I just started placing them properly or if having a child changed something :)

I would love to use tampons since it's very interesting to use until I've heard that tampons are not good to use. They say that, it contains chemical which will cause you to bleed for more and buy more tampons. Stayfree is good and smells good. Do you use pantiliners too?

I use tampons. I find them much more comfortable and cleaner feeling than napkins. On lighter days, to be safer I will use a really thin napkin instead of a tampon though. For a long time I refused to use tampons because I didn't like the "idea" of them. When I read the directions, I was too worried to try it. Then I found myself about to go on a kyaking trip that I had to go on. It was either use the tampons or be out the money I paid. It took some time to get used to them and figure out exactly how to use them, but now I use them regularly and don't want to go back to using napkins all the time. As for Toxic Shock Syndrome, it is quite rare so I don't worry about it too much. As long as you don't leave the tampon in for too long and also don't use a higher absorbancy than you need, you are pretty safe. I think of it this way, it's no more dangerous than riding in a car. Besides, the comfort level makes all the difference for me.

I have never try using tampon in my entire life too. I remmeber when i was 14-15 years old, i went shopping with my another girlfren. She and I asked for tampon from the shooping mall assistant, and she advice us not to use tampon as we are still young, and it will hurt us, if we dunno how to use it. so i am still sticking to pad. I have 3 kind of pad, one for regular day usage, one for night usage and another one is ultra light, in case i am going out for activity on my last day of menstrual period.

I don't use tampons either. I use the cheapest sanitary napkin there is. *LOL* It may sound so frugal but actually of all the sanitary napkins I used, it's the only one which don't make me feel uncomfortable and I don't get rashes from it.

I usually use sanitary pads. But I have tried using tampons before. I think there is no difference between the two. I used also one brand of sanitary pads. I just like the fitting and the absorbing power of this pad.

I use both pads and tampons. Just pads on the light days. Both on the really heavy days. Just tampons on the light days if we are going swimming or I just want a break from the uncomfortable pads.

I've been using sanitary napkins since I had my first menstruation. It's much comfortable in the sense that I can always see if I have to change already because my period is really weird. There are months that it's flowing like the red sea that I have to change every 4 hours or so and there are months that I can wear one pad for half a day and my napkin is not even half full. But I used tampons like twice before, it's ok but I prefer napkins.

Pads for me, I never used tampons because when I was younger I tried them and I couldn't get it in right. Yeah I was a moron, but I just said screw it and have stuck with pads because they never really bothered me anyway. I like Always with Wings.

I've only used Tampons when I've absolutly had to.... otherwise nope. As I don't like how they feel and I don't like the idea of putting something foreign other than for reproductive purposes in there period. And that also includes the lastest gadget the Diva Cup, I really don't want to be fishing around up there for that either.

I use pads as well, but like you I need the same exact brand/type each time. Cause otherwise it starts to itch and bother me. I use Kotex (which doesn't have that film most others do) with the velrco wings

I've never tried or used tampons before. I've always used the napkins or pads. I love using the pads. I'm more comfortable using pads instead of having something stuck inside of me. I love using stayfree, the old stayfree brand, thin overnight pads. I don't have to worry about having any accident with those on.

I used to use sanitary napkins, but switched to tampons almost 2 years ago. I've never looked back! I definitely prefer tampons. They are just so much cleaner and more comfortable. And I never have to worry about leaking, as long as I change them at proper times!

I use tampons. I do not remember the last time I used a pad. I don't like the feeling of the pad against my skin knowing that there is blood on it. Tampons, once you get used to them are great. You almost forget you have your period. There are many brands out there and depending on you and your preferences you may need to try out a few brands until you find one that fits you the most comfortably.
