Do you believe there is a benefit behind every misfortune?

It's that "When one door closes another opens" kind of thing. Napoleon Hill author of the classic, "Think and Grow Rich" said, "Before success comes in any man's life, he's sure to meet with much temporary defeat and, perhaps some failures. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and the most logical thing to do is to quit. That's exactly what the majority of men do." Are you a quitter? Napoleon Hill also said, "Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed on an equal or greater benefit." Has that been your experience? Tell us your story.

I have a slight change in what you quoted at the beginning of your discussion ;: WHEN GOD CLOSES A DOOR, HE OPENS A WINDOW.. I've experienced this in my existence. When all doors are tightly closed you gasp for breath ..here is where HE comes to your rescue and HE opens up a window for you to breathe.Misfortunes, adversities, bad luck ..all will end sooner or later provided you have firm faith in the Almighty !

Yes that's the same idea. What's your story or experience with that?

I believe there is. God is so generous that in every trial we take, there is triumph. We wouldn't recognized the benefits of it when we wouldn't experience misfortune. However, not for every misfortune. What I mean is, sometimes, it is our fault that leads misfortune. I'm not a quitter. I'm a persuasive person and I don't give up easily. Maybe we would get benefit from our misfortune if we learn from it.

I think you are exactly right. If we learn the lesson that's the benefit. And if we don't learn we always get more opportunities, don't we?

not that im a holy roller or anything, i believe in god, tho, and i remember a song by Garth Brooks titled. "thank god for unanswered prayers", and if you listen to it, its the truth! all things happen for a reason even if we don't think its right at the time, as you look back on your life, things really do have an order to them. ,and if all your prayers were anwereed, then your life must be perfect, and there is no such life as we know it!

Now that I am in my 30's I definelty believe that behind every misfortune is a benefit. I by no means am a religious nut- BUT- I have been shown in life that whatever god takes away (misfortune) he tends to give back three times fold (benefit). So yes- I would have to say that there has been a benefit behind every one of my misfortunes!

Hi TDonald, I remember reading that book, along with many similar types, The Magic of Believing, The Power of Positive Thinking etc. It's a great book, that has helped many people. While I never became rich in the monetary sense, I found those statements to be true. I like to say that "things always work out for the best". Sometimes it takes a while before we see it, but looking back I can say that it has been true for me. Blessings.
