statues? what are they for? catholics here in our country kisses the feet of the statue of what they so called JESUS CHRIST, praying, and even worship the statue, and then they said that it can heal. yes I believe in jesus christ, but hey how did they know that the image is the real image of jesus christ? why do they not pray directly from above? why do they need to say saint blah blah blah, then mother of GOD, yes I believe we must respect the saints, and the mother of GOD, but not to the extent of worshiping them! would anyone of you can explain this please?

The statutes are just supposed to be reminders, however there are some, well, "fanatics" that actually seem to venerate the statue itself and that what it symbolizes. I think they're just carried away by their faith but it bothers me that some priest doesn't bother to clear up this misconception.

I guess your right, Priest are doing nothing to enlighten the mind of those people not to worship images. here in the philippines, the black christ?, is very popular, yeah the statue of the black christ. may people from different regions visited this statue, because they said that it can heal the sick. the question is, if the statue is being blessed by GOD, why do the people need to visit the statue if they can ask for blessing themselves directly to God?

we all knew that Satan has also the power to get into the body of a certain object or of a wicked person (I don't believe hat Satan can control the body of those who are righteous, because we? if we have God in our hearts, he can never dominate us), what if the statue of the black christ is Satan?, they are worshiping satan then.

i think it is a tradition dating back to 2000 years.when there were only catholics.statues bring peace of mind also we can pray better when we see holy statues.we don't worship the statues.we just venerate them.the renegade catholic monk called martin luther was a follower of virgin mary.

Correction pls.Mary is sacred so never call HER as "nothing"....She's the mother of Jesus Christ and its very unrespectful for you to be called her like that.Listen, you have your mother, right? What will you feel if you heard your friend saying this way, "Your mom is nothing and if she's only not your mom she dont deserve to be respected."...Does it hurt or not? pls think more.........Another thing we dont worship statues or images, they are just imaginary thing that helps us to remember Jesus or mary just like the way you look at the picture of you girl of love ones for you to remember them.

Oh, my, please do read behind the lines. I am comparing mary to GOD. who is mary compared to GOD? then my dear she is nothing, she is just like us, I am not degrading her, please do read behind the lines. I respected Mary because she is the mother of GOD, but I am just comparing, Hope that I have enlightened you. WE ALSO ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO GOD

ok, I don't really get what you are trying to say in your last line, follower of Virgin mary? why not a follower of christ? virgin mary is nothing, but because she is being used as a medium in giving birth to our savior, then she deserves respect, but not followers and worships from people!, who is martin luther? martin luther is a protestant? if I am not mistaken?

what are you trying to say? yeah, the picture of your girl friend is her real picture. but the statues in the church, are they the the real image of God? , and one thing, you can't compare the picture of the image of your girlfriend in our discussion, unless you are obsessed with her to the extent of worshiping what she have. :)

well i hope i can explain it. the statue is just for the image..... bcos we still pray to GOD. we just need an image to make us focus on who's we worship for. about the kiss at statue i'm not so sure, perhaps it came from habit.. n the prayer... it was made to make us easy when we have to pray, when we don't know to say nothing, beside it was written in the bible, the prayer "our father"...

yes, of course, Our father (a prayer) is written in the bible, what are you trying to say? I don't get the connection of that prayer to our discussion. Wh do we need those images for focusing?, can't we pray to God directly to him?
