YOu made me curious so I had to go find the answer for you. Here it is..You can't have your cake and eat it too == one can't use something up and still have it to enjoy. This proverb was recorded in the book of proverbs by John Heywood in 1546 and is first attested in the US in 1742 'Colonial Rocords of Georgia in Oringinal Papers, 1735-1752.' I alway thought that it stemed from when Marie Antionette said 'let them eat cake!' For whatever reason. But I'm probably wrong on that. I don't really know the exact origin, but it means that you can't have it both ways. You can either have your cake, or you can eat it. But if you eat it, you won't have any cake left. Hope that helped a little.

Good question, I am not sure where that saying came from but it is kinda funny. I kinda get what it means but when you read it, it doesn't make sense..cause of course when i have cake i eat it too..lol..I think it is basically saying sometimes in life we can't always get what we want, like when someone says I want to ivite amy to my party but then amanda would get mad...sorry not trying to confuss, but in that case you make one person happy but another sad, you can't have it both ways. There are many situations but it's hard to explain so I am gonna top typing now..lol
