For this project you'll need:
-Wax - I would use a votive blend
-Wick - I would use an untabbed zinc core wick, suitable for a 1-2" candle.
-A small mold of some sort. The only requirement on the mold is that it be larger at the top than it is on the bottom. Many candle supply companies sell "tart" or "floater" molds. You can even use a miny muffin tray.
-Basic Candle Making Equipment
Steps:
Prepare your molds and wick and melt your wax.
Add any color or fragrance you'd like, and pour the wax into your mold.
Let the candles cool until there is a skin over the top.
Take a small piece of primed wick and gently stick it upright into the center of the candle.
After you've inserted all of the wicks, let the candles cool.
When cool, pop them out of the mold and trim the wicks to about 1/4".
Done!
Some good ideas:
Drop a floating candle into a goblet or wine glass.
A margarita glass is great for three small candles.
Fill a votive holder with water and make a lovely floating votive!
Of course don't forget to fill a large bowl with water and float several candles in it to make a warm, beautiful centerpiece.
Do you like to make candles? If so, what kind do you make?
