One thing that worked for me: I faxed the VW dealerships in my area and told them I want such-and-such a car for this price, who will sell it to me?I had 3 dealerships competing for my business. Not only did I get my car but I got it for cheaper with extras for a lower price.

I will stay away fron the auctions. They ussually sell lemons droped from dealers. If you are not an expert buyer don't go there alone.What ever you decide make sure you hire a mobile car inspector. When they inspect the car for you,ask them to drive the car on the expresway for at least 20 minutes. you will save money when you hire an inspector by being able to lower the price of the car you're buying. Check on craigslist.org under the auto/car/truck section in the city nearest you. There are always cheap cars on there and many times you can find a great deal.
