The Fruit Diet?

I was surfing the net today and I came across a bunch of pages devoted to a diet called 'The Fruit Diet'. Evidently you eat nothing but fruits and nuts for a period of 2 weeks and it cleanses your digestive system and drops about 5 lbs of weight.
I'm a little apprehensive, since I can't imagine how sick of fruit I'd get after 2 weeks, but I'm also a little curious to try it, even just for research purposes.
Anyone gave it a try in the past? Any input?

i tried it before and it really works if you want to lose weight. i really like fruits so i have no trouble eating them from breakfast till dinner for two weeks.
if you plan to have a fruit diet, i suggest you buy many varieties of fruits so you wont get sick of eating the same thing over and over again.

ive heard about this diet.. basically its like, detoxification of your body. i once tried to eat only fruits for a week, but on the 2nd day i started to eat non-fruits. it really takes a huge amount of determination to carry out this type of diet successfully. good luck to anyone attempting to try this diet

Well I figure I have a week to give it a try in, so I'll go out and buy as many different varieties as I can. The good news is I can finally try dragonfruit since I have an excuse! :)

I'm sure that cleanses your system but I don't think I can last for two weeks just eating fruits and nuts. Wouldn't you feel a bit weak if that's the case?

I wouldn't think so.
From everything I've read, no one complained of feeling weak or lethargic. I think I feel more weak after eating a bowl of pasta than I do after eating half a watermelon.

I've tried this. I lived on apples, pears, and mangoes for two weeks! Well, among other fruits, but those were my favorites. I didn't lose any significant pounds after recovering from the diet even though I exercised all the way. It's a good cleansing diet. You'll know because your bowels are nastier looking during the first week. After doing this I found that I'm having a harder time eating meat especially in the big portions I was used to before. So I started to naturally cut down on meat. That's the biggest things that I've achieved with this cleansing diet. I drank soy milk through the whole thing so I won't feel so acidic. Good luck!

I love fruit but I'm not sure I could eat just it for 2 weeks That 5lbs is probably water weight. Most people fail to lose weight on fad diets because they are so hard to stick to. Also most people gain the weight back after returning to normal eating habits. I think the best way to lose weight is to count calories and up your exercise.

I was more interested in it's cleansing properties. I've been really slacking about nutrition lately and I could probably stand to do a detox.

I've tried a very similar thing for a week. I felt really great, and somehow 'clean' from within. I wasn't following any written diet, I just felt like doing it, and I did.
I think you should give it a try, but don't limit the time. If you feel that you've had enough after a week, go back to your normal foods. Just listen to your body, I'm sure you'll get the signals at the right time, and then you'll have had a great fast as well. All the best!

Thanks for the input! I think I'd like to give it a try, just to say I've done it and to see the results.

If it's one of those severely calorie restricted diets, you'll just gain the weight back when you beging to eat normally again. Any kind of high fiber diet will help clean your digestive system. The fruit has both soluble and insoluble fiber, which has so many benefits for digestion and for helping to decrease the bad cholesterol. It probably wouldn't hurt to try the fruit diet, as long as it's balanced to provide enough nutrients and calories for the energy to keep you going.
