I read this tip in Reader's digest magazine: To sharpen dull scissors use aluminum foil.
Fold aluminum foil into several layers and cut into strips. After several passes your scissors will be sharp again.
I know this works because I have already tried it.

This tip also works well for when you need to sharpen punches - regular office supply hole punchers, scrapbooking punches and that sort of thing. You only need to punch into a single layer to sharpen these, though. I wonder if those paper cutter things (the flat things with the blade that either slides down the sheet or had a handle your raise and lower to cut) can be sharpened using this method, too?

Thanks. It was just the other day that I was struggling with the pair of scissors I have.I guess I don't have to throw them out after all. They are pretty ancient.
