I dont think there are really any tips to stop chatting. Its more like a mindset than anything else. Your friends should start thinking of other things to do. Maybe just cut down on their internet time altogether. if they dont go online then they wont chat. To begin with, they can decide that today they will be online only for 2 hours instead of 4 hours. Then that way they can cut down on their chatting too.

First and formost, they should turn off the computer, maybe look into other sites besides chatting sites. They unfortunatly have an addiction and a bad one. Once you forget your daily life, it is an addiction that needs help. They need help and they need to find something else to do. Maybe take time out from the computer and tend to their daily lives, so they can get back on track. I hope this helps.

How can you stop them if in the first place they don't like to end it up. I think the best reason and resolution for that is they themselves. Let them chat above all, till they forget their appointments, they forget their career, their responsibilities, family, and everything. And for an instance let them give full attention to chatting. In that sense, they would be prompted for the effect of it. Now, they will see what would happen and they must admit they've been wrong. Bottomline is, they would curse chatting when something bad happen to them, their family, career, because of chatting. Soon, they will stop.
